|
|
I have a 1995 KIA Credos. I bought it for 1.2 million won last year. I was recently told it needs a new water pump and alternator and it will cost me 700,000 won to fix (but this is a mechanic in Apgujeong). I am looking to get rid of it for a very low price since it needs repairs.
Aside from the water pump the car is in good shape.
only 159,000kms = 99,000 miles
The car still has plenty left in her, so if there is anyone who knows their way around an engine and looking for a fixer-uper then I'm asking 400,000
Or more realistically, if anyone has any information about a place I could scrap it and make at least a few hundred off of it then please let me know. I live in Seoul in Gangnam.
Thanks
for sale inquiries and pictures of the car email me, Anthony at

Some of those cars will get you more than 400,000 for the scrap metal. Ask around about that. |

yeah, actually I'm sure it doesn't have to come to scrapping. I called another garage (not in Gangnam) and it will not cost more than 450,000 to fix. And since there are no other problems with it, it wouldn't make sense to scrap it. I've had a lot of responses, so I'm going to get an estimate and then see what happens. Still going to sell it though. |

Since that car is a rebodied Toyota Camry, I checked the US prices for the parts for the 2.0 4cyl, (assuming that is the engine you have)
alternator $129-139
water pump $30-40
use these parts prices as a guide
labor shouldn't be more than 2 hrs |

You do realise this isn't the US, it's Korea, and things like car parts can have big differences in price depending on which country they are purchaced in. |

Are we really in Korea? Thanks Mr Obvious for pointing that out.
I have found that parts for Korean vehicles are usually reasonably priced. It is the imports that are killers. One thing I do know about the Korean mentality is that a car from 1995 is OLD, and parts may be difficult to come by. The usual sources won't be stocking them.
I included the US prices to give a starting point for price shopping. It is essential to ask around at other repairshops if you don't have a relationship with a mechanic you trust.
One further note: an engine with that many miles may well need a new timing belt. That should be checked and replaced if necessary. Depending on the engine layout, that may be easier with the water pump removed. |
