I can no longer bear paying 7000won plus for bottles of imported beer, however I can't start drinking that Korean rubbish. Anyone know where you can get a decent beer for a relatively decent price in the Hongdae/Sinchon area?

I'm really enjoying living in Seoul, but the drinking situation is really poor.

Not going to find good, cheap beer in a bar in Korea. Wa bars will have Leffe for 6 or 7, and Duvel for 6 I think. For me that beats the crap out of paying 3 for a hitte. or cass. But think about it this way, it takes about 12 cass to get drunk, or 4 or 5 leffe. 36k vs 30k -good trade off.

Yes Red Rock is your best bet for good and cheap, I've only seen it in Itaewon though.

Red Rock is everywhere, but the places that serve it outside of Itaewon usually tend to suck. Typically a notch below the Beer Hunter and Harry Pia style hofs as well, so even worse in terms of locale.

Go to Beer O' Clock in Sinchon, good cheap beer and hot wings.

I know exactly how you feel.

Go to Gangnam - there are half a dozen micro breweries there including Castle Praha, 500 Brauhaus, Big Rock, Platinum and the best of the best - Oktoberfest. In Oktoberfest they serve really, really good beer (weis, pilsner or dunkels) that they brew in the building and it's 5000w for 500cc - the best price you'll get anywhere. PM me if you need directions to get there.

Oh yeah, and there's a Castle Praha in Hongdae too, the building looks like an old church, it's pretty cool. Also there's an Oktoberfest in Jongno (between gwanghwamun and jonggak stns). They both have great beer.

Have some snazzy ones at home, have a few Hoegaarden at a convenience store-they're 2500 or thereabouts-then drink Duvel if you can get it for 6000. You need never drink more than 2-3 Korean beers a night again.

Actually, the building looks like the Prague Castle, complete with working Astronomical Clock (well, the clock works, I wish the skeletons came out to dance).

You will pay 1,000 KRW per 1,000 ml of beer. It's sold in different levels and completely worth it.

1,000?! Don't you mean 10,000 KRW?
