well, an economics and public health case can easily be made for the vaccinations. They certainly don't qualify as high risk for death category, but if the entire team gets sick that means games are canceled, millions of dollars is lost/delayed in expenditures, hundreds of thousands is needed for new schedules etc. If they lose a few key players but still play and lose, let's say 5 games, the team may not make the playoffs and then they lose millions of dollars in ticket sales, the economy takes a major hit etc.
As for public health, many teams have their own jets, now, not sure if these guys do. Even if they don't air re-circulation on an air plane would expose everyone. As would everyone at hospitals. For pure containment reasons a pretty solid case can be made for vaccinating those who travel a lot, especially in large groups. |
