the search function failed to even provide any threads. so i am making a new one.
i have been kind of studying korean for 2 years. my level is pretty good i guess. and i can have simple conversations. i never went to a class, just studied at my own pace and learned what i wanted to learn.
to motivate me and help me improve, i want ot take the level 1 (i guess) korean test. has anyone taken it or know where i can find information on it? price, location, books to study for it? |

It's called the TOPIK test. I'm planning to take the next one, too.
http://www.topik.or.kr/
You can buy self-study books at big bookstores, and they usually have sample tests you can do in the books too. Also, I heard a lot of hagwons have three month preparation classes for the test too. I think it's not really needed for the beginner level, though.
There are three test levels and each is split into two more levels based on your scores on the actual test.
You have to register for this in advance, too. I think you had to register in July for the test in mid-September, but I might have my dates wrong. They have tests twice a year. I think it's mid Sept and beg/mid April. |

wow that one link was about everything i was looking for. you get 20 cool points for your wealth of information.
now i am faced with another hurdle. the business topik or the standard topik.
do you know if one is more helpful than the other? |

I'd say standard unless you have a particular need for business Korean. What's your goal? If it's just to be conversational/everyday use, go for standard.
Edit: If you're really not sure, go to a bookstore and flip through a business TOPIK prep book and a standard TOPIK prep book and see which is more useful to you. |
