On two different computers at two different schools I get the following error message when I try to get an add-on from Firefox.

Quote:

An error occurred during a connection to services.addons.mozilla.org:443.

SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.

(Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)

Are the schools blocking a port or something?

Use IE.

Firefox is not so super-duper. Korea is all IE. Get used to it.

Google Chrome works fairly well for me in Korea.

But the best is Microsoft IE8. Works everytime.

I've had this error code for the last few weeks too. It doesn't stop me from installing updates or new extension though.

I do use IE for Korean sites. However, Firefox works great with sites based outside SK. The incredible amount of ads on the web really messes with my web experience. I can barely get through the ads on Yahoo mail to get my email. Banners flashing on NYTimes.com and other intrusions get blocked easily with a simple Firefox extension. Additionally, I can configure the FF search bar to always search the U.S. based Google, I can ad an extension to allow me to download YouTube videos with a single click, as well as dozens of useful tools.

In short, IE doesn't add the functionality that FF does.

I get the error - then it downloads - but it fails to install after restarting FF.

that message is almost certainly based from the school server set-up. whatever you're trying to add has a specific code to it, and the filters on the school servers are set to recognize similar code and to block it.

if it's a public school there;s no telling how they're set. I had youtube blocked (bandwidth issue), along with several japanese sites (japan is evil!), but online gambling and porn were readily accessible --- the school district tech guy was the one to figure that out, not me...

I'm getting the error at 2 totally different schools and at my apartment. 3 different buildings and 3 different computers.

+1

Came and went away by itself, during updates.
