Alright, I'm a week from coming over for my first contract. I'm looking over the forum to see what can be found in Kland and what is best to bring. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but I can't see much of a listing of what beers/liquors I can expect to find (aside from obvious Korean staples like Cass & Soju). Is it asking too much to find things like Keith's and Crown Royal?
I ask more out of curiosity than anything, as I'm not about to try and bring a case of beer with me on the plane.
And While I have your attention I guess I'll also ask what are some of your favorite beers/liquors (either from home or found in Korea)

Depends on where you're going; if you're outside of Seoul or one of the big cities, your chances of getting anything except cass, hite, and soju are pretty slim.

That's a lie. Any small town with a Family Mart or any other chain store will have a small selection of foreign beers. Usually Bud, Miller, Heineken, Guinness, Sapporo, Tiger, Tsing Tao, San Miguel, Ashia and some Aussie beer that I can't remember. Although it might cost more than the domestics. So instead of 1500 won, it will cost 2500.

Welcome east coaster. You won't find any Keith's, but Crown Royal is available in some places (I think...) Try out the Makoli or Dong Dong Ju, they're far superior to Soju. Beer here is a lost cause.

Not really true. You can get imported beer at your major convenience stores in rural parts of Korea. It's more expensive though. No Canadian beer, though. You can get Tiger, Heineken, Budweiser, Milller Golden Genuine Draft, Asahi, Corona, sometimes Tsingdao, maybe Guiness, Hoegaarden etc.

Keiths? I don't think so, Tim.

Other than that, you can try the black markets or Costco and the like (Lotte Mart, etc.), but I don't know if you're going to get much different at those stores. Have no idea about the black markets.

In bars, you can find different bottled and on-tap beers like Alley Cat, Guiness, Hoegaarden, Stella Artois, San Miguel, Tsingdao, etc.

Big Rock Brewery in Gangnam has a bunch of Canadian microbrews on tap.

Big Rock? That's not at all related to Alberta's "Big Rock" (Traditional, Grasshopper, etc) I assume?
I'm going to be in Incheon, so if the big city selections are better then hopefully I'll find em, but I'm gonna miss some of the Canadian selection by the sounds of it.

You will likely have to trek to get your fix. If you live in commercial area you will have no problem picking up drinkable foreign beers at Mini Stop, Family Mart etc. I live in an urban/residential area so there are only privately owned mom 'n pop stores within about a 15 min walk radius. They only carry Korean swill plus Budweiser (which is really just Cass in a different bottle, it's brewed in Korea.)

Costco sells Crown Royal. My buddy drinks like 4-5 bottles a week.

The convenience stores are dependable for a few brands, but Homeplus has one of the best selections of imports here.

Crown Royal you might be able to find, brother, but Keith's? You might as well look for Oland's in BC. The only Canadian beer you're gonna find is overpriced and Moosehead. That's two strikes right there. Possibly Molson, but if you consider that an improvement...

If in the countryside, buy them out of anything decent first chance you get.

Actually, I have some students who work for Samsung-Tesco. Whereas carrefour hit the dust a few years back because Koreans prefer to feel pampered while shopping, Tesco is just quietly providing more goods on the market. They're using Korea as a testing ground before expanding in Asia.

If this is why there's more beer available these days-especially Euroswill- this is good and we can expect more.

I can manage to find a lot import beers (European origin) if I look hard enough. But the other people above are quite right, the farther outside of the large cities, you'll be relying on good ol' Cass or some quality OB BLue. But they get ya drunk, so unless your a beer snob (nothing wrong with that, i may add) then you should be alright.

But definitely try out the local stuff, its much better

You can find imported booze across Korea, although the selection is best in the big cities. Prices are very high though, and there will be fewer brands available than back home. Big stores like Homeplus and some E-marts will have a reasonable selection of import beers and liquor. Whiskey in particular is popular and easy to find

Yes. Big Rock in Gangnam brews Traditional Ale, Warthog, Grasshopper, Honey Brown, McNally Extra Ale, and Black Amber.
