Survival Korean is a great book. So are the other books in the series like Survival Korean: Basic Grammar.
These books are perfect for picking up common phrases as well as explaining the culture too.
Teach Yourself Korean is another exemplar book, but it's not as widely available as the Survival Korean books.
Another hint... and it seems kind of counter-intuitive, but look for beginner books written by foreigners first. They grasp the needs of a beginner learner better, while a Korean written book will either be levels ahead of you, or with knowledge that isn't generally applicable for a beginner. (or filled with too many mistakes to count too!) |

I looked for the Sogang book at a big bookstore last week. Maybe it was Kyobo, not sure (it was at Jonggak Station). They had a lot of Korean language books; I saw the SNU and the Ga-Na-Da(가나다) books, but couldn't find the Sogang (서강대학교) books.
If anyone has a Sogang book, can you tell me what title is on the front. I can read Korean at an intermediate level.
Thanks,
Drew |
