Hello,

I was thinking about taking a position in Asan, though my girlfriend is going to be living in Seoul. Would it be a bit crazy of me to commute daily via the KTX? I heard it takes about 30min from Seoul Station to Asan, is this accurate? Also, does anyone know how much it would cost? I remember it costing about 50,000 per way from Changwon to Seoul, but that was about a 3 hour ride with one change.

I also haven't really been able to find a great deal of info about Asan either, whats it like? From what I gather its pretty quiet....

Yeah it's doable. Depending where in Asan you are teaching. Your total commute time may be around 1 hour or 1 hour 20 mins door to door.

If you are teaching at a university, you should be able to get a uni discount during the week, which gives you somewhere around 25% off norma fare.

For Daejeon, a single ticket during the week sets me back 14-16K, depending on time. Peak times are more expensive, of course.

I *think* for Cheonan-Asan it's around 10K per trip with discount.

Just took this trip the other day. From station (Cheonan) to station (Seoul Station, Yongsan is like 5 minutes shorter) its 40 minutes almost exactly. But with the transfer to taxis or buses or subway or whatever, it will be over an hour most likely. The other post is correct on prices. It is 13,000 won one way without discount and 11,000 with.

Cheers for the reply. That doesn't sound too bad really, considering it costs me the equivalent of 9,000 won for a return 5 minute bus ride to work here in the UK!
