Saccharine is called New Sugar. Sometimes you will packets labeled in English, sometimes only in Korean. It's also got some glucose. Maybe 800 won a packet. You can find it at any large store like EMart. They also have stevia.

Costco has some packets of the other stuff, equal, etc. In large boxes. Start with New Sugar.

There is also a low nutritive product called Fine Sweet available at E-mart. It states that is has 1/5 the kcal of regular sugar. I need to snoop at the lable a bit to see what the sugar alcohol content is as this can make for some uncomfortable rxn's in the gut. It seems to hold up well to heat unlike nutrasweet.

Costco, at Yangjae, has 1000 pack boxes of Splenda for approximately 33,000 won.

They had 800 packs of Equal before, for much less, but not anymore.

I think the Costo card, if you don't have one already, will set you back 35,000 won.

Cheers,
Henri

Foreign food market in Itaewon. About 4000W for a regular sized box. They also have the tablet dispensers to keep in your bag for when you are in a coffee shop.

You're trying to avoid the serious health consequences associated with sugar consumption. But in doing so you're instead choosing the serious health consequences associated with artificial sweetener consumption?!?! Why would you do that to yourself? Respect your brain. Please be aware that aspartame is an exitotoxin--it excites neurons to death, especially basal ganglia neurons. (See the book "Exitotoxins: The Taste That Kills" for more info than you'd ever want, written for MDs) And the other artificial sweeteners you mention are also quite harmful.

Stevia is the only one that is not known to be harmful, as long as it is used as a whole food powder and not just partial extracts. It is not yet clear whether processed and refined stevia extracts are as safe as the whole leaf.

Or... you could just do without added sweeteners entirely. Try eating more fat (yes, really. But make it healthy fat, not fried or rancid stuff.). That often helps cut down on sugar cravings, and will also help moderate the glucose rush you get with meals. Plus it's tasty, and less likely to cause weight/health problems then unregulated carb consumption.

ezshopkorea.com if you are lazy and don't want to make a run for sweeteners just order it from here. Shipping really isn't that expensive and its basically Costco stuff with a small markup but way worth the cost if you are far away from Costco or don't feel like making a trek for sweetener.

I hope you've realized that aspartame, the main ingredient in equal and nutrasweet, is poison. It had its origins in WWI research to develop chemical weapons for heaven's sake!

Anyway, you can order Stevia extract (all natural - no unpleasant side effects - safe for diabetics - rich in natural fiber) at: http://www.natureplace.co.kr/
