So bass...can you lay out exactly what it does? Sorry...I know you have done this piecemeal over the thread,but...

You power it up, it posts then hangs? Like...does it hang at the memory check? Can you get into the BIOS? Did you do what I posted earlier? Is all of your RAM seen? CPU is registering fine?

I mean, it could be a bad stick of RAM. I have seen some pretty odd behavior resulting from this and hanging on boot seems symptomatic. Bad luck though man...sucks.

It depends.

Ram checks out Ok. It sees it all. I've tried booting with one stick, then the other. Same issue. Tried moving them into other slots, too. CPU registers fine.

What it does is goes through the post stuff, and either hangs at the end of it with an 0078 error, or goes to being loading Windows and hangs there at the "Starting Windows" logo. Error 0078 stays up until it tries to get into Windows. I've tried different SATA ports for the HDD, and same issue.

I've flashed the BIOS, and updated.. no help.

I've tried different cables on the HDD, and removed the CD rom. Same issue.

I will also note that I have reinstalled Windows 3 times now. I am worried, because I heard there is a lock on how many times this is allowed. It installs via USB stick, so avoids the HDD, which is why I'm able to boot from there and install it. Once installed, I am only able to get into Windows (sometimes) if I hit F2 or Delete and go into the BIOS, then restart from there... then it sometimes loads on the reboot.

I believe what has happened is that something is wrong with the Mainboard hard drive controller. It's about the only thing left. They're going to get me a new mainboard (same model only Crying or Very sad ) on Monday.

Ok...sounds like you have certainly covered all bases. Did you do any of the BIOS changes? Probably. Best of luck getting this sorted.

Went in today and the guy replaced the mainboard, graphics card, and power supply! So now virtually everything, other than the CPU, is new.

It seemed to boot just fine in his office (had to pull teeth to get him to boot it, too).

Oh great... everything is fixed, but the video card he exchanged for is hosed. Sad I'll only run on VGA. DVI is virtually unreadable. Looks like I'll be taking this card back somewhere next.

Know where the gigabyte shop is?

I truly am. In my 7+ years here, I've had to return at least 50 to 60% of what I've purchased from Yongsan. This year it's been nearly 75%!

I returned the video card today for a different one. Guess what? The guy shrugged his shoulders, threw the broken one in the box for the other one, and will probably sell it to the next guy. THAT is what happens with most small vendors in Yongsan.

There's a lesson to be learned here. Never buy from Yongsan. Why didn't you just order your parts online. Sounds like you had the knowledge to assemble one yourself.

I have bought a number of things from yongsan never had a problem. Sounds like bass is just unlucky.

Very unlikey bass you aren't running stuff through multiple mulitboxes are you? I seem to remember from one of your earlier posts that you are in a new apartment not an old villa with dodgy wiring? Could power supply be an issue? The other option is you have your computer on the floor with ondol on max and stressing your system? Are the vents clear?

Both ideas sound remote but...

The shop replaced the mainboard and power supply, and all is well. Problem was likely the mainboard.

I have built many systems from parts bought at both Yongsan and Technomart and never had many issues. Sure over the years a dud stick of RAM and such, but never any problems like BE.
