Outrageous. These essays had better be a quarter page long each. But even that may be pushing it if the students syntax and grammatical errors are particularly incomprehensible and convoluted. To just spot the errors doesn't take long but to actually change them is a huge undertaking when time is so limited. I'd like to know what the standards are. |

If they are similar to the TWE on the TOEFL exam than it is doable. I still wouldn't like to work like a machine, but I have done more than 30 of the TWE grading them in a day. I just couldn't keep that pace everyday 5 days a week for a month. You do get a little burnt out after a while. Most of these essays would be 3-5 paragraphs probably 1-2 pages. Figure if you just focus on the organization of the paragraph and fix the grammar that relates to that, then you would be ok. I don't think that they expect you to find or circle every single mistake.
A good copy editor could and has to do more than double that. I have 2 friends that are copy editors one in Indonesia and one in Thailand, they are professional and know how to do things in a fast and efficient manner. For the average joe blow college grad without experience editing, they couldn't handle it at all.
I would want a little more than they pay but if you could maintain good speed, you could earn more than 3million a month. I think that is good for some that are burnt out of the classroom a little. I wish that I was available right now, I would take that job. |

It's funny how people with such bad grammar and spelling tell us how to teach English. |

Are you kidding? It's gotta beat dealing with middle-schoolers at the average Hagwon. Plus, after scoring ESL essay tests here in the states, it would be a cinch for me. The quota doesn't even scare me. Once they've found someone willing and competent, who cares about the work, they will want to keep that person. Unfortunately, I'm not going to apply, as I'm not crazy about going back to Korea. I can't even figure out why I still look at this board. I should be over the whole experience by now. I've got a nice boyfriend, a place to live, and I've even found a job in this rotten economy! |

I'm not gay, but a few days ago, my boyfriend told me that his employer could be sending him to Korea or Taiwan this next year and if that's the case, I'll think about returning. |

How is this job ridiculous? Mark a few essays each hour and get 2.5 million a month? I'd be tempted to apply if I was staying in Seoul another year... |
