I need to teach classroom English to a group of elementary school teachers. Together (with the teachers) we have made an extensive list of classroom English, covering everything from beginning/ending the class, introductions, error feedback, classroom management, etc.

I am looking for some ideas of some activities that we can do with this language. If you have taught this before, or if you have any ideas for fun and/or effective pair/group activities that would be great.

At the end, we will be doing teaching demonstrations where they use this language. But, we are still in the building phase. Hit me with some ideas. Thanks guys!

It doesn't seem like you would be addressing all grades. So, what grade are you focusing on?

The teachers are from 4-6th grades. I'm looking for activities for the teachers, to practice using the language.

LOL, but the teachers are teaching those students. So it does matter in the end.

Anyway, we got the answer 4-6.

I would work on role-plays and grammar.

Don't leave the teaching practice to the end, have activities at the end of every topic which require the teachers to practise what they've been learning. E.g. beginnings and endings, peer teaching using role plays, instructions, give them some typical activities they have to explain to others in their group, error correction, put in groups one teacher chooses a card and reads out a sentence with an error in it, the next teacher along corrects it, etc...

With this type of course, the common failing is the lack of effective speaking practice until they get to the microteaching or practice lesson.

You need to make sure that they get the chance to do mini roleplays all the way throughout. You can't just expect them to put it all together right at the end.

Hey Zappa,

If you want, you can use some of the things I have created as supplements to what you are creating.

It's under classroom English.

Simon says variation where teacher mimes one thing 'Open your book' but says another thing 'Stand up.' Alternate between them having to copy your action / do as you say.

Play the whisper game using the vocab, hot seat game would also work for this as would bingo (using pics if they can't write / spell) and placing ther f/cards around the room, saying aloud one of the ovcabs and stdnts rushing to grab the correct f/card etc....
