Is this Kosher? I think I am justified in refusing just on the basis that it's not part of the PS ed. system. (Am I right?)

I know the contract says they can send me to anywhere in the school district, but it also says I can refuse unwanted overtime.

I am curious in finding out more about it, as the principal mentioned something about Chinese students, so I thought it might be worth checking out at least. But I'm certainly not agreeing to anything blindly.

You can have a second workplace if you work at a PS, but it must be another public institution - not a hagwon. A second public gig is possible, but it must be approved by immi first. The only way your principal could have you teach those students is if he brought them to your school, have you teach them there and you were paid for those classes by directly by your school. You cannot go off-site to teach at, or be paid by, a private institution.

If they do send you outside of the school talk to them first about who is going to pay the immigration fees. You need to get permission from immigration to have another workplace added.

Last year my school wanted to send me elsewhere to do a winter camp and insisted that I pay the immigration fees, which I think were 70 or 80,000 Won. I said no way. They still refused to pay and I didn't go. It didn't do anything for my relations with my school, but I don't like being pushed around!

I don't think they realize that it is illegal.

I am half tempted to do it though.

Just to have some classes free of an interfering, co-teacher!

Anywhere in the school district to a PUBLIC school. They can not farm you out to a hakwon as that is a private institution and outside the principal's jurisdiction.

Not only that, but it's illegal, unless you have Immigration's stamp on your ARC. Plus I am fairly positive that if your primary sponsor is a P.S. then you can not work at a hakwon...although you can do this the other way around.

P is definitely seeing a cut if he wants to farm you out. It's totally not kosher.
