Hey folks,
Has anyone here lived and taught in either Daejeon or Bundang?
Would you recommend one over the other as a place to live?
Alternatively are both cities going to make me wish I was living in Seoul? |

Here's a fairly recent thread about Bundang.
http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=144039
I've lived here for 18 months and love it. I prefer it over Seoul, but I'm a bit more of a homebody than the mid 20's expats. For me, Seoul is close enough to visit easily and regularly, but far enough away that I'm happy I'm outside of it.
Hope that helps!

Don't know much about Daejeon but it seems to me in Korea there's Seoul (and Busan), and everything else. Bundang is an extension of Seoul: coffee shops, Mexican, Indian, Thai, etc. restaurants, decent housing, good wages for hagwon work, some ENglish spoken, etc. |

I would definitely recommend Bundang. I've had friends that lived there and loved it. I lived in Daejeon for a year, it was ok, but my friends that lived in Bundang liked it way better. |

hey again,
thanks for the replies.
It does sound like Bundang could be a very nice place to live.
I kind of had a kneejerk reaction to it's being so planned and new.
Is it worth traveling to the other side of the world to live in the suburbs?
any of you ever hit against this question or something like it when you moved out there? |

migum and jeon ja have their own little down town area and seohyun is rocking. but yeah if you don't like walkin along the river or hanging out in little meat restaurants and what not stay where you are. Daejeon has its own scene too. actually the two are fairly similar. |

Thanks guys. I think I've settled and am going to take a position working in Daejeon.
Bundang sounds nice and well attached to Seoul, but Daejeon sounds like its more interesting in-itself; older, less planned etc.
On a side note, I've got two choices between "Noeun, Daejeon" and "Daejeon, Daejeon".
Any one know the difference between the areas? |

I used to live in Noeun. It's on the outer edge of the city but is still only 15 minutes away from downtown by subway. It has a decent selection of coffee shops and restaurants and there are lots of other teachers living in that area. There is a Homeplus (Tesco) Express too. It's also right next door to the World Cup stadium so if you like your soccer, its very convenient.
Which school are you considering? There are many hagwons in Noeun, some good, some not so good. |

Company name is YBM ECC. Seems pretty reputable. Ever had any experience with them? |

Bundang is closer to Seoul. I visit it regularly and I like it more than most places in Seoul. |

Please don't mention that stupid rule again. It had some relevance years ago but now all roads lead out of Seoul. Gmarket has brought an ever increasing amount of foreign goods to workplaces and homes all over Korea. Ethnic food is slowly creeping out of this metropolis. Entrepreneurs are creating niches. Places like Daejeon are just an hour away from station to station. |

I'm pretty sure the YBM ECC is in Jijik-dong, not Noeun, but anyway, it's close enough. I've never heard anyone have any problems there. Sounds like a solid hagwon job. |

If you move to Daejeon you'll get to be closer to EngrishTeacherRyan - who wouldn't want that privilege? |

I've lived in both places for several years and prefer Bundang by a long shot. |
