What the hell are children going to do? You want another even bigger generation of spoiled brats. |
Your opinion on the behavior of children has nothing to do with the economic discussion at hand. |
Merely increasing the birth rate a fail-safe solution. In order for the retired population to be supported in the style to which they've become accustomed, members of the younger generation must have well-paying jobs in sufficient numbers lest too many of them also burden the system.
Will Korea continue to lose jobs to China? Etc.
Stemming the abrupt population decline will not magically create wealth.
And your answer here is interesting in light of your opinion that Koreans born in the U.S. to "birth vacation" mothers will return to Korea as infants and then return to the U.S. for jobs....perhaps I will thank them for helping support the U.S. safety net. |

I agree that stemming the abrupt population declince will not magically create wealt. But to try and resolve the issue while in the middle of contraction of 50% per generation would require considerablely more effort and favorable circumstances, and it would still carry a higher probability of failure. |

okay gord let me make it simple for You. And try to drop the insecurity concerning your intelligence. It's annoying.
I offer a solution that brings foreingers into Korea with the OPPORTUNITY to eventually become citizens. I provide them a decent wage and a decent quality of life. They work in Korea for 5-7 years and then apply for citizenship..etc..
You offer a solution that ASKS the current 20-somethings generation in Korea to have more children. How are you going to get these young people to have more children? HOW!? |

all talk, no action
Organized crime is making a killing in Korea lending out money because the Korean government comes up with these ridiculous unrealistic ideas.
More children...this is the idea of a complete idiot. |

While the idea will probably work reasonably well over the long term, it's gonna cause lots of problems for the current generation.
They're already having trouble finding jobs to support themselves, and they're expected to support the large number of elderly people too. Asking them to bring more lives into the world to support might be asking too much. |

Christ man, there is no one solution but certainly giving people an incentive to have more children is a valid part of an overall solution. The population decline is inevitable and I think the government is right in trying to slow it down. As for twenty somethings not wanting to work, how come we got over 30 resumes in 3 days for a barely advertised secretary's position in my company. Let me add that my company is far off the subway line and the pay is low compared to other secretarial positions. It's true that kids today don't want to do the 3D jobs but trust me, the Korean work ethic is still very much better than in Western countries. |

you're a sap.
"a valid part of an overall solution" people would hand you your balls if you spoke like that in a real company. Nobody wants your phoney nonsense. No one cares about your situation in your outlying office. Do you have a solution to the problem or not? |

After I go out and explain the reasoning behind it and why it's being done in a few countries (and not just Korea), you still do nothing but send insults to everyone who disagrees with you? |

I wouldn't mind seeing some figures that substantiate that claim. |

Having a country overly dependant on foreign workers who are focused on working simply to send money outside the country actually retards the local economy. Ranging from reinvestment options from bank savings to others to direct spending to investments in commercial entities down the road, all are not to be had the same currency been given to a local worker. |
This is true, but the assimilation of foreigners into the Korean economy, and culture might encourage these foreigners to keep their money in Korea. The lack of perminance does nothing to encourage foreigners to keep their money in Korea. A relaxation of immigration/visa rules might reverse this trend. Further, the assimilation of foreign workers in Korea is hampered by a lax enforcement of labour law, and unscrupulous bosses. Strengthening the rights of workers in Korea might provide more favourable conditions, which in turn, induce domestic investment. |

I don't disagree with your references to foreigners working in Korea, but such policies shouldn't overshadow the need for Koreans to produce more children. |

A question, since Korea "needs" more workers. If the birthrate is declining so much, why can't people find jobs? Like tsgarp said, 30 applications for 3 jobs, etc. From what I hear from my college students and other Korean friends, it's very difficult to find a good job.
So what the issue is, is Korea needs replacement workers for menial jobs that the older generation is working. Is this right?
Why not call all Koreans home that live overseas? There's got to be millions of them out there? Since there's "plenty of room" in Korea and the population is decreasing, maybe they can fix the problem and save Korea. |
