OK, I know about the 150,000 won ceiling for getting stuff sent into Korea without paying duty. That's one of the few things that's easy to find on the official website.

This topic has come up before, and I have seen some posters say you can get new laptops sent in duty free. And supposedly books and DVDs do not require paying duty.

Is this true? Are there other categories that are duty free, sent in new? It seems to me I've heard cameras are exempt from duty. How about MP3 playerss? Clothes? Anyone know for sure what the deal is?

Thanks for the help.

I'm pretty sure that no new products are exempt from duties. Some luxury goods have extra fees on top of the standard 18% VAT. Some things (cameras) will squeeze through with a lower percentage. I recently bought a camera and the duty fees were about 10%. I would count on anything valued over the 150000 won limit to be taxed.

One other thing . . . they don't necessarily charge their fees based on the value claimed/printed on the package. If they open it up, they'll charge you fees based on the Korean market value . . . good luck.
