I find people who use the cruelty argument interesting - are you vegetarians? Do you consider the forced feeding and toxic conditions that cows and pigs live in in the US to be somehow better/less torture? Animals get abused every second on factory farms in the US - what makes dogs so much more special/worthy of concern?
Not challenging, just asking. |
One difference is the intentional torture. Yes, cows, pigs chickens and other factory farm animals live tortured lives. However, their horrible existence is a result of raising them in the most cost efficient manner possible. Dogs, on the other hand, are intentionally tortured for reasons which have no scientific backing.
Granted, the end result is the same. In both cases animals are tortured, but intent should hold some weight in/on/over(hmmm can't think of the right preposition here) the morality of the issue.
Regardless, I'll eat anything, and I invite you all to dine on my flesh when my time comes. |

| If God dodn't want us to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them out of meat. |

| It's the animals' fault for tasting so good. Fish too. |

Yes, I am. However, even before I decided to be vegetarian, I was against the cruelty.

Yes, I do consider those conditions to be less torture than burning the dog alive.

The difference is that there are laws in the US and those laws do get enforced. In Korea, the law isn't even a suggestion more often than not; it's merely a sound bite. |

Then don't throw me in a classroom with 38 middle school boys... that's just cruel. |

| I think a question with much larger implications is: Will the world ever stop eating McDonalds? |

teaching private lessons to koreans (on E2) - illegal - response from this forum - do not talk about it - harm done - some korean kids slightly improve their English.
Eating dog meat (from possibly tortured-to-death dog) - illegal - response from this forum - say how delicious and fun it is..no reprimands - harm done - horrible suffering..if what was done to the dogs was done to small children many people would be shouting for the death penalty for the person responsible..
am I alone in thinking some moral compasses need adjusting? |

If I ruled the world, no one would eat any animal! (I'd still let other animals eat animals...hmm..tho, just thought that horse is a major ingredient in dog food..hmm..ok, will think on that further..)
Many animals are more or less tortured to death...chickens in cages, dogs in bags, lobsters in pots, so on and so forth. It grosses me right the f out, so I stopped eating any meat a long time ago.
That said, I don't think Koreans eating dogs is any different from a Swede eating meatballs.
People seem to want to eat animals. And kill each other over religion. And have more and more children. And keep using plastic bags. I can only shake my head and hope it will all get better someday, in the future...when Jean Luc Picard is born.

Yes. Human beings are sentient creatures not animals. However, if you can do to the dogs what we do to small children (teach them English as best we are capable) it would be pretty dang entertaining. |

| To answer the question in the title of this thread, I'd say "yes", but only after the ajosshis die off. The younger generation is less fanatical about dog meat soup. |
