I have sent all my documents to the school that I will be working at starting February 2010. They are taking care of all the details down there...but they are letting me know that I will have to pay for the visa fee in Canada. This fee isn't all that much...but is this common? I just wonder if i should negotiate with them or what not...

thanks in advance.

It's your responsibility, and that's almost always the case. You'll most likely have to pay for your medical check when you get into Korea as well, so budget 50-100 thousand won for that as well.

99% of teachers have to pay the $50 visa fee to get the visa stamp in their passport in their home country.

Yes you also will be responsible for paying the medical exam in Korea - unless you have a nice director. All EPIK and public schools make you pay and take it out of your settlement or airfare fee
