|
|
I have recently beefed up my search for a job in K-Land and have gotten very similar responses from recruits I had been in contact with for a while and some that I have just recently began speaking with.
They are both saying that finding a job in Seoul is going to be next to impossible if I am not a female and that the schools have become very picky. They say I should change my location preference or be S.O.L.(pretty much sums up what they are saying)
Is this a common thing right now? I'm seeing tons of Seoul Positions on the job board and just wondering what the current situation is right now.
I'm looking to find a job sometime after January 20th, 2010.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks! |

Not sure, but I also had trouble when looking for a job in October. I was in Seoul and am a good looking young American guy so managed to get a sweet job actually. Not to mention 1.5 years experience here. But up until I got that job I wasn't getting a whole lot of good offers. Mostly country side or the infamous "near Seoul". One recruiter guy told me to just give up on Seoul also.
The job market here has become competitive, I don't know exactly how competitive though. It's also not a prime hiring time. Good luck. |

I guess it depends how picky you are. I've seen some Seoul jobs advertised, but mostly kindy hagwons. If you aren't too picky about hours/age levels/pay/etc. you'll find something. Also, keep in mind that many recruiters won't hire for January positions until next month because right now directors don't know how many teachers are re-signing.
That said, everyone here says that if a recruiter only offers you jobs that don't fit your specified requirements, drop 'em. Everyone is right. There are hundreds of recruiters (I was in contact with about 40-50 of them) so there is no point in wasting your time with recruiters who are intent on putting you in the sticks. |

The saturated market is giving them the chance to purge white men from Korea. Seeing them walk arm in arm with Korean women was too much to bear.
Instead, lets import all their women! We can make Korea into one giant "Chats with beauties" show. |

I will say that things have been different as of late. Two years ago when I was looking for a new job, I had hundreds of job offers, but nothing that was better than my current situation. This year, though I found a MUCH better job, I would say that I had under 40 job offers in Seoul. Most of them were not worth the time of my reading the email, but some of them were good, and the one that I took is amazing. So, my point is, things have changed yes - and the market is more saturated, but I still had 40 job offers in the time period of two months...you can find something. |

I have a year of experience here, and am a decent looking American male, mid 20s, and it took me a solid month of good searching to find anything good.
The best advice I can give is to know what you want in a school (pub/private, kindy/non-kindy, you the only foreign teacher/many, etc etc) then keep your eyes out. 2 days before I got my job offer, I felt like I was chasing rabbits, it just fell in my lap.
If you don't mind not being in Seoul, open it up to other big cities, you should find a few things.
Also, get all your docs ready, that's a big selling point for you to recruiters. |

Anyone can always find a job in Korea if they are not adverse to teaching in the way out xenophocbic and racist areas. |
