A buddy of mine just went to KEB and opened a new account to get an international card. He was under the impression he could get an International debit card, but they only offered him an international ATM card. It has a great rate, in my opinion: $3 + 1% fee on withdrawels or something close to that.

Questions: Is there such a thing as an international debit card and is this fee good/comparable to most?

I may be wrong about this, but I don't think that you can get a credit card from KEB as a foreigner unless you are a uni teacher or have been at your ps for more than a year.

Funny you mention. My friend told me the lady at the bank said at first, "Oh no. You need a credit card." Then came back to him a few minutes later and said no, because he was foreign he couldn't get one. I know this is not true. Many foreigners have credit cards here. But, is this a case where maybe he needed to have the account open for awhile in order to establish himself with the bank or just move on and ask another KEB brach (like Itaewon, where I hear they don't BS us).

samsung will give you one then, they will send a representative to your school to fill out the application with you, and less than 5 days later you will have your card.

Unless the rules changed, KEB gives credit cards automatically to PS teachers...took 5-7 minutes to get a global credit card...works great abroad.

From what I was told, you need to use your KEB account as the one your school deposits your pay into. This will raise the "prime" score on your account high enough to qualify for a credit card. At least that was what I was told. I never got their credit card. I ended up getting a Samsung one so I could use it at Costco.

Not to undermine what you are saying, but does anyone here actually have an international debit card from KEB as opposed to an ATM card? I am not interested in a credit card.

no. you cant get an international debit card. you may not be familiar with how most credit cards work here though. most cards people have they dont carry a balance over month to month. for example, my credit card that i have debits my bank account for 100% of my purchases that month on the 28th of every month. i could set it up to debit less, but then i pay interest. so it is essentially a delayed debit card. if you are not comfortable with that, and are looking for an international debit card from KEB, you will be looking for a long time. they dont exist.
