What this thread is for:

A) Sharing which universities you have been invited to interview with (so that the rest of us can know if we are still in the running or not)
B) Discussing what transpired in interviews you have already attended (so the rest of us can know what to expect if we are invited to interview at the same university)

What this thread is not for:
A) Discussing the merits of having a university position in comparison to other types of positions (i.e. public schools, hagwons, etc.)
B) Debating the particular usage of words like 'disinterested'

Let's all try to play nice and help each other during this process...I too have been guilty of violating the sanctity of other threads and I wholeheartedly extend my apologies to the posters in those threads. Let's keep it neat this time shall we?

I have been invited to interview at the following:
Soongsil University
Inha University (Business Department)
Seoul Women's University

I have had negative responses from the following (meaning I did not get an interview):
Hanyang University
Dongguk University

I already had the interview at Soongsil. It went really well and was a very positive experience. Both the foreign coordinator and the Korean head of department were extremely cordial and welcoming. I hope to learn of their decision soon.

Hi DG. Can you let us know your qualifications and experience so we know what the two negatives were rejecting? If you don't want to say that's fine though...

I'm curious about Sungkyunkwan...

I applied...but never heard anything... therefore I assume I'm not getting an interview.

But I haven't heard anyone else commenting about if they were accepted/denied so I'm wondering if the decisions are still ongoing (I really doubt it though).

Long time reader, first-time poster. Koreanambition- I saw you ask about Sungkyunkwan in a couple threads so thought I'd respond. JUST heard from them yesterday. I have an interview next Friday, so you may still be in the running.

I don't think I'm getting called...when I applied there I gave them a hard time about one of their requests, and also didn't have my references done so just gave a couple names...

I don't think they were happy about that based on how she commented.

Smile

I just wanted closure and to know that I was denied. hehe

Thanks

Which job/department are you talking about at SKKU?

It seems funny to me that universities would send out negative replies to some applicants and nothing to others. I applied to Hanyang as well and haven't heard anything from them. Does anyone know or at least have a guess of why this might be?

by the way, I haven't heard back (yet, I hope) from any of the ten or so jobs I put applications in for.

No problem... I will complete my MA (in English, not TESOL) in February and apply for graduation in March. Therefore I will have diploma in-hand in May. I have a BA in English, CELTA (pass B) and 4 years of tertiary experience. Hope this helps clarify.

Actually I have a friend out at Hanyang ~ if you haven't heard from them, you're out. If you want to know about specific universities and you think the date has passed, you should just ring them and ask to talk to someone in charge.

I think it's because the applicants emailed the unis inquiring about their chances.

Dorian,

I think you said in another thread that Dongguk is hiring 10 and interviewing 60. I heard different... care to say how you found out?

Inha is hiring in different departments...will you be interviewing with the international trade department or logistics?

Do you know the number of candidates for that one? What's the interview sound like? From what I remember the job benefits seemed better than the Seoul Women's University.

I heard about Dongguk straight from the horse's mouth when I called to inquire about whether or not I got an interview. It says in their advertisement that they will be hiring 10 and the lady on the phone said they were interviewing 60.

I am interviewing with the International Trade and Regional Studies department at Inha. I think the benefits are better out there than at Seoul Women's (3.1 compared to 2.9) but it is in Incheon, which would require a move. I'm not sure how many candidates, but the interview requires a 10 minute demo lesson (I mean really, what can you do in 10 minutes?).

Wish me luck...

alright, it's time for me to enter dongguk hiring headquarters. I have obtained a large quantity of kiddy snuff pictures. I believe I will enter the office where the resumes are kept and replace all of the profile pictures except for mine with these pictures.
