It's factored into the servers pay, that's why they only make 3 dollars an hour. If you can afford to tip you can't afford to eat out. Stay home Tommy.

Well thankfully where I'm from we don't tip, and restaurants somehow (gasp) manage to pay staff more than $3 an hour so it's not a problem. Bottom line for me is that service is the responsibility of the restaurant. They should charge $1 more per dish to make up the difference, or whatever the need to do to pay THEIR STAFF a decent wage, but I'm not interested in it, it's not my business, after I've had my meal I want an exact dollar amount based on what I ordered, and the restaurant can sort it's own finances out.

Well when you're not where you're from leave a tip. You're shafting the server.

Idiot Christians, who think a 2,000 year old book is the unquestionable word of the one true god but refuse to practice any of the "turning of the cheek" or "loving thy neighbors" forgiveness and understanding BS.

Even though I'm not Christian, I love how anti-religion folks back home, without any (perceived) understanding of the bible or Christianity, wonder why Christians aren't "forgiving" or "understanding". What you're wondering is why Christians can't just accept homosexuality, evolution, and abortion, right? Right.

Don't get me wrong, Christians want the same thing (in terms of people sharing their beliefs), but I just don't like how the other side labels the religious: unforgiving, etc.

I was a server and a bartender for years (literally all over the US), and it is actually ridiculous how much money you can make at it sometimes. Especially when you consider the lack of tax that is paid by some servers. That being said, the entire restaurant culture in the US is a tad bit demanding. If anyone I knew was making $8.00 and hour they'd quit mid-shift from any number of jobs just because you're being disrespected by a child over ketchup for his chicken fingers. You keep smiling because you are making $20+ an hour in cash. It should also, be noted that many servers do not get a paycheck, because their paltry wages don't cover the taxes owed on their tips. So when you stiff, or under tip servers, they are working for you for free. As to the people in PA that got arrested, they were I'm sure subject to an autogratuity which is posted for larger parties. This is not an option to refuse, it's a service charge. Just like when you get your oil changed, there is a charge for service or labor. Can you imagine these people refusing to pay for the service because they had to wait for their car for longer than they expected, the quick-e-lube wouldn't wouldn't stand for it either.

I hate the corporatization of america, I hate that every town looks like every other town. Lame.

It's feast or famine most of the time and too dependent upon up and down trends of business. Like right now lots of people aren't tipping too well because of economic fears. Hurricane Katrina and all the flood of refugees destroyed our outherwise good year in my part of the country. When I was making the cash I was usually left empty after paying off all the bills from the down time, only to have another down time start again.

unforgiving...translation - picks and chooses who they can forgive. Bush for starting 2 wars? No problem! Clinton for Lewinsky? BURN HIM!!!!

Cariie Prejean is a stupid bitch...translation - well, she is, and it has nothing to do with the way she answered her question.

There are more than 2 sides.

I hate people that chew with their mouths open.

I hate people that go daily to the all-you-can-eat joints.

I hate the Nazi-cops in black ski masks waiting to taser you if you get out of line.

Anti-abortionists.

Say, how come folks from texas are all cool about killing people when they trespass on their property, but not so into it when they trespass in their uteri?

I hate the fact that I should somehow feel shame for loving the country that I was so fortunate to be born a citizen and of having so many opportunities because of my citizenship.

I hate that other countries only like us based on the "what have you done for us lately" principle.

I hate the greed of those who are really in charge who have taken the voice away from the people through manipulation in media and big banking/gov.

Warning! Generalisations and personal opinions follow:

Where do I start? I dont like the basic hypocrisy of the country. Its perfectly OK for Americans to bash France although America wouldnt even be an independent nation now without Frances aid. But if anyone bashes America for any reason, there is an outcry of, How dare you? We saved you in World War II!! (Also an obviously incorrect understanding of reality.)

The depth of bare-faced dishonesty in American government as an example, the way international law, as started with the help of the U.S. at the Nuremberg trials, are good ideals to follow and failing to follow them resulted in execution for Nazis and Japanese war criminals but somehow dont apply to America when Americans commit some of the same acts.

The couldnt-be-more-wrong belief that everyone not American wants to be American. I mean, give us some credit; there are many people out there with taste and discernment.

The way many Americans behave like children who havent learnt restraint yet. The way they whoop and jump around, shout and generally behave (when happy) as if they can do whatever they want without regard for anyone else who may be in view or listening distance. Learn some decorum people!

Tipping. The greed of restaurant owners who wont pay a decent wage to their employees while making their paying guests pay not only for the food but for the workers to provide a basic service of a restaurant.

For non-Americans - read an American newspaper and watch your own country disappear. The pig-ignorance of many Americans about the rest of the world.

And for Gods sake, learn how to win a war on your own for the first time since before 1900. Its getting embarrassing now.
