Sorry if someone has already asked about this place; I've tried to use the search function but it doesn't seem to work (is anyone else having this problem?).
Has anybody worked at the above? If so, what was your opinion of the place? Both good and bad. what were the hours like? And is the accommodation better than it looks from the pictures, e.g. is there a shower in the bathroom as it's hard to tell?
And generally what do people think of working in english villages?
Thanks

Generally they're regarded as one step below hakwons...and that's saying something. |

If you mean the one that is on a joint project with University of Colorado then I can give you some pros and cons because I worked there a year:
PROS:
Paid on time.
Paid airplane ticket
Private room in dorms(some teachers are getting apartments)
Meals 7 days a week even if no students are there.
Korean staff is friendly and will try to help if possible.
Shuttle bus to the city on a daily basis.
Cheap taxi ride to nearest town.
It is in the country so it is quiet at night.
Huge Thanksgiving party and Christmas party--free food!!!!
TAs assist you in the class.
All teachers get a laptop.
Large amount resources.
Large facility and very new and modern building.
Good experience for new teachers. Flexible curriculum.
CONS:
Schedule changes weekly.
Must share everything(cafetria, dorms,DVD rooms,PC rooms, laundry room) with the kids and they take priority until at least 8pm every night.
Work holidays(Korean ones too) and weekends with little notice.
On your day off, if you are in the dorms and they need a teacher they will come looking for you.
Cafeteria menu can be very boring--same thing, different day, everyday.
Shuttle bus schedule can change without notice.
Many taxi drivers don't know how to find it.(use the same taxi driver)
Phones in dorms don't work off campus.
Wireless Internet goes down often for days at a time.
Kids have "at camp" mentality so are very hyper or homesick.
TAs get treated very poorly at times. |
