I recently left Korea due to an accident and I took my components for my computer home with me. I had them reassembled at a computer shop, just bought a case and power supply. Here is where the issue started. My computer was shutting off abruptly while I was playing games (one time through the night). Not restarting mind you, just turning off as if someone yanked the plug. I assumed it was a bad PSU because the one I picked up was generic. I upgraded the PSU and it is still happening. So here is my dilemma, as I have used the same parts for over a year and never had an issue before, why am I having it now? I thought it might of been the outlet I was plugged into so I switched it, but alas it is still happening. I downloaded speedfan to check my temps and the processor was running around 55 Celsius (I have an AMD dual core something or other). Would this kind of thing happen if my processor was overheating? There are no error logs for the problem because the system shuts off too quickly to write one.

I am running the computer with the side off the case right now to reduce temps, as my inkling is that it is temperature that is doing this, but any thoughts regarding this would be great, as this problem is annoying beyond belief.

Help me!

Cheers

I would suspect that the CPU is overheating when on high load so the motherboard is shutting the PC down.

You could try re-seating the heatsink fan. Make sure you have a very, very thin coating of thermal paste on the CPU when you re-seat the HSF.

From what I have read that seems to be recommended. Perhaps the guys at the computer shop can hook me up with that stuff.

I think my old case was better, it had a giant fan on the front which probably helped. Since I have taken the side off the temp hasn't gone above 55 degrees. I also deactivated AMD boost in bios. So far no shut offs.

Cheers
