Gecko's in itaewon is having a thanksgiving buffet and I am thinking about going. I was wondering if anybody's been there in the past and if it was worth it. |

I called them to make reservations. They said you had to go there and make reservations in person.
What crap, I'm not going to make a trip all the way to Itaewon just to tell the guy "2 people for Thursday night".
Instead I made reservations someplace else. |

I did it last year. White and dark meat, smashed taters, some Korean twists (I can't really remember what exactly though) the whole shebang.
Legit, worth the 35k. |

I hate to break the holiday cheer of hope and sharing. If you think you can just waltz in a place in Itaewon on Thanksgiving or Christmas, you are whistling dixie in Seoul's little Dixieland. I was a single dude walking around last Christmas who was turned away every where I went or told no dinner was available. The 3 or 4 places cooking American food won't let you in the door without reservations made in advance. Better make Christmas reservations immediately after Thanksgiving if you want Christmas dinner. I ended up doing my own 3lb turkey from Red Door, but the Cajun style bird breast was so super hot spicy. Not even for a day was I not reminded I was no longer in Kansas.
It's really tight, because turkey, Libby's canned pumpkin, and Bruce's canned yams are in short supply as it's been for many years over there. And the fact there isn't much of anyone who can cook American who actually works as a cook on the day of a major holiday unless it's an Army cook on post. I might had scored without reservation at a major hotel someplace else in Seoul, but that would probably had been expensive and alienating as can be. |

A turkey is nothing more than a really big chicken. Buy a roast chicken off the squid truck. If fact you can buy two for under man won. Invite friends over buy lots of soju. |

I went there two years ago and had a great time. It didn't taste restaurant buffet-y (if you know what I mean)--it felt really home cooked. There were a lot of choices and it definitely was worth the 35,000 won. |

Would a hotel buffet be worth it at ~60kwon? I'm talking about one of the major hotel/luxury hotels. |
