Here's a website that has a bunch of portable apps for download:

http://portableapps.com/apps

http://portableapps.com/suite

It looks like they are all, or mostly, fully legit, not bootleg.

There's stuff like firefox and chrome browsers that you can run off a USB flash. But that works slowly. Instead, just copy them to your hard drive.

Why?

Sometimes it is hard to install apps on a Korean computer at work. I have had trouble installing Opera on some computers. Sometimes the Adobe flash add ons won't load, etc. And then some apps end up in all or part Korean.

So if you use a portable, they generally load without problem, and in English.

Plus, if you use a portable browser, your activities aren't logged by Windows, ie, in the Documents part of the start up menu. And if you bury the icon somewhere, it is more private, so your browsing history is not as obvious to co-workers.

All you do is copy the portable app to flash memory, then copy it onto another computer.

Yes, portable apps are great. I use portable VLC all the time and then I can always play songs and movies on any computer because the software they have on most of the machines doesn't work. It runs ok off the stick too so I don't need to install it on the pc.

Yup. Portable apps rules. I used to use it a lot but I use google docs now. Still use it for vlc, audacity and I was using firefox but it broke down for some reason so I just install FF onto ant PC I'm using these days.

Chrome OS on a USB drive is probably the way of the future. For me anyways.

I used to use portable apps a lot on my eeepc (tiny drivespace) but now I just use a lot of google docs and cloud computing.

I too think google os on a flash drive would be the way of the future, especially for teachers that have to go classroom to classroom using different pcs.
Now if only Google would improve their presentations.

I'm thinking about using this for presentations.

The google docs one is good for simple stuff like pics and youtube clips.

good lord that's amazing!
have you signed up for it yet?
I'm thinking about the $60 one, it's about the same price as a computer game, and i feel like if i'm playing with this it would be more like a computer game but would be beneficial to work too.

I think the free version is OK. It has 100mb. I havn't used it much. There isn't much point in making dazzling presentations for, "My dog doesn't eat at all. What do you think I should do?"

Might play around with it for camp. Maybe get the students to make some sort of presentation.

It would definitely dazzle the crap out of the inspectors come evaluation time. Laughing
