|
|
Hi guys,
Can anybody recommend a skiing resort in Korea where my girlfriend and I can enjoy Christmas? We are looking to stay there from 24/12 to 27/12. Our main request is that this place will feel christmassy, as we both are away from home for the 1st time.
Thanks |

Nowhere in Korea really feels "Christmassy", it's just not that big of a deal here...
High 1 and Phoenix Park are two of the biggest and best resorts. Can you read any Korean? If you go to www.naver.com and search for 스키장, you get a map with Korean ski resorts marked with clickable buttons for more information. |

Thanks Bob,
I think that if we woke up on Christmas morning surrounded by snow, that would be "Christmassy" enough for us. From experience can you recommend any? |

You could rephrase that to say that little about Korea ever feels festive or fun.
Go to a Korean resort on any given day of the year and it will feel the same....just more crowded and less fun on holidays.
It's a shame, they love to ski, ski all day, then....nothin. No apres ski, no demo says, no holiday fun, no big events...a couple of little events and comps, but nothing cool.
Good suggestions though!!!!
Phoenix is an ugly resort though, nice runs...one of my faves, but resort draws a minus in my books.
Try High1, they seem to have this cool party train and appear to be a little more into the festive idea of a ski resort. |

I'll piggy back on here.
From a pure skiing perspective what's the best place to go?
I want the place with the biggest mountain and deepest pow (probably a pipe dream). Can't remember the name of the place I went, but I thought it sucked. All fake snow, bad runs, waaay too crowded and none of the Koreans could ski very well despite their $5000 in top of the line gear.
Is Yongpyong the best place to go? |

Japan
THERE ARE NO GOOD RESORTS HERE. There are a couple of average ones. Do not expect powder. Was skiing high1 last korean new year snow the whole time, decent enough snow that night (finished up at around 10pm. the next morning got up expecting to be able to ski powder but it had all been groomed away during the night.
Once again the best skiing in korea is Japan |

That's what I thought. Last place I went skiing in the US was Jackson Hole during their record setting winter of 600+ inches. Le sigh..
PS, no need to shout, I can read your post just fine. |

Don't you just love it when people don't answer your questions?
I've never been there, but I've heard Yongpyong is the place to go. They've hosted international skiing competitions, so it has to have some decent runs. I would avoid places near Seoul. Koreans ski like they drive, and the runs are packed. Be careful out there. |

Yeah Yongpyong is pretty good. Korean's do ski just as they drive, but the steeper the slope the quieter so as long as your not a begginer you can find some space at times. |
