I had a dream about you. The Uljin party is coming up one of the teachers asked if my Hupo friend would be coming. You know the woman who you thought was hot.

I am being offered a job with Canadian Conenction. I am #22 on there list. But I am assuming thats quite low withen the school district. So 1st come 1st server on location in that provence. They also dont start until April sometime. Hence December - April is a big break. One could blow 6-10k in four months off.

Yes, same here. I wanted more than the 1 friend I had, another teacher in the rural Eup. I only quit my rural job, because there was no one aged 20 to 40 to associate with nor even speak English with and Gangwon-do is the most boring part of Korea in my experience. I had to teach my main school how to sponsor a foreign teacher as I was their first one. Communication was quite difficult, but I made it to the end. Good thing I knew what to do out of experience.

I too recently applied and interviewed for one of those 2 Jeolla positions, but was told 1 of the 2 openings were postponed and the other candidate hired was given the job I applied for in Gurye-Eup. OP, no you would NOT be nutz to stay a 2nd year as getting another job is very difficult this time around. Your Canuck recruiter just declined me for that same Jeolla job, because their director just told me yesterday they hired too many and had to just send out rejection emails due to job postponements and too many candidates. I only got this explanation by replying back asking what was wrong with my candidacy. #22 on the list? Don't expect a new job any time soon. You might consider just extending to the end of February with your current employer to finish the semester and teach Winter camps or just negotiate to extend until December 24th.

Not always true.

I live in rural Jeollanamdo and within a 20 minute bus ride there are at least 10 other native English teachers. In fact, tonight most of them will be at my apartment for Thanksgiving dinner.

Add to that the fact that Suncheon is less than an hour bus ride away and you have a great compromise. Rural life day-to-day and the city an hour away when you want it.

In two weeks I will have finished working in Uljin at the high school. They are asking me to stay a second year.

Concidering i seen many post on people talking how they braved the country side for one year and didn't go nuts, would I be nuts for staying two years?

I have been offered a job in a different school provence, Jeollanamdo Provincial Office of Education Public Schools.

I did a google earth on this location though and it seemed even worste off then Uljin. This school also wants me to start in April, thats a long time away.

Or I could not sign and perhaps get a job in inchun in a few weeks.

Would you hold out for a city job or stay in the country?

Are you from King's County, Prince Edward Island, Canada?

No, I am from California, USA. Compton to be exact.

The job market has gotten harder I must admit. In 2007, I applied online and was offered a job and flown out the next day. I didn't even have a visa.

In 2008 you get job offers but they take about a week.

Now 2010 people want letters of how good you are, and many more hurdles to overcome. But the jobs are still out there for good teachers like us.

Seems they do send home the bad ones.

If you do decide to stay a second year in the countryside, buy a car. Seriously. You'll be glad you did. Aside from easier and faster access to the cities, you can road trip to anywhere in Korea within a few hours. It'll make your stay here much more enjoyable. And then, when you leave, you can just sell the car and get most of your money back. Piece of cake!

There must be a fishmongers daughter somewhere in the country...

I can't imagine what there is to do out in the Korean countryside. Seoul doesn't have that much as it is. Guess there's fishing and beer in summer....spas and makkoli in winter. Start a garden? Confused

You'd have to be pretty good at keeping yourself amused.

A car sounds good. The bus is nice, but leaves you stranded when you get somewhere.

I think I will do that.
