|
|
This morning, my co-teacher (who is really a cool and logical young teacher) asked me if someone had come to my house.
I answered 'no' and she looked a relieved and a little embarrassed. I then asked her what was up and she said the government officals are randomly going to foreigner's apartments and subjecting them to searches and drug tests. Has anyone heard about this? I'm not confirming its true or not true, I just want to know if anyone knows anything.
She said it was in the paper today. They busted 10+ foreigners for have things such as weed. |

I would ask if those searches are/were legal without a warrant but then I remembered where we were. |

| Remember if you break the law, you're a dirty criminal. If the government breaks its own laws, its for the betterment of our country and our "safety." |

Duh, law-makers can't break laws, right?
I'm sure the trick is just not answer the door. |

| True enough. I never answer my door. I don't speak Korean and friends always call when they come over. There is zero reason for me to answer an unsuspecting knock. |

Word!
Also, a Korean guy banged on my door at 7:55am last Sunday. He spoke decent English to me. He explained that he was there to check out what turned out to be the fuse box for the apartment. I scolded the guy for banging on the door at an early hour on Sunday. Afterwards, I looked in the at box and wondered to myself why in the world he'd like to know if the power was on in the apartment. Hmmm, maybe is a spy checkin' up on me to see if I had any horny ajummahs in there with me?! |

You lucky ducks with your video screens.
Some of us have to pull up our pants; hide the towel; turn down the sound, close the windows, unplug the headphones (in that order); wash our hands, and find our atlas to throw on our laps before we yell
"Come In"
"Hey...whatsup...is this a...bad time?"
"Nah...just reading the atlas...you know...( looks down and sees atlas is upside down, turns Atlas right side up without lifting) Moh-zam-bee-kay is one interesting place"
"Right...It's Mozambique."
"Ah, of course. So whatsup man!" (Tosses atlas aside, stands up, kicks towel under bed, trips over headphone cord.) |

Do not let these guys in. Once inside they can easily plant a sample in your appt while you are being distracted. |

Actually take it from me, a confirmed pothead. They must have a warrant
to test you. However, if you cave and and agree, you only have yourself
to blame because they will use that as evidence AND a confession.
To actually force a sample from you they need to get a prosecutor to
contact a judge. The judge will review the case and the legality of the
evidence against you. He/she may then OK or nix the warrant.
NEVER GIVE YOUR PISS! Duh! |

so true in my case! unless i've called you or know you, there is no way i'm opening my door (thank god for video screens). and just because you start pounding the *beep* out of my door, it doesn't make me any more likely to open it.
my first year here i did open the door for a man that turned out to be from the gas company, and now i'm just stunned i was that stupid (i'm a foreign woman living alone here). |

What is the legal situation here. If the police were to come to your house can they search without a warrant?
This sounds really dodgy, if it's a targetted operation then the chances of planting evidence etc is going to be high. |
