My DVD burner is making nasty noises and never finishes a burn process. DVD burners (internal, not USB) are cheap enough, so no problem. Except I hate any Yongsan experience.
Is there any "Best Buy" type store, that will have 4 or 5 models on display, with specs and prices listed?
The thing I hate about Yongsan is that there are 10 stores (stalls) all in a row, store 1 has models A and B, store 2 has models B and C ... and none have prices listed. It creates such aggravation for purchase of a simple computer part.
So any recommendation for where to buy an internal DVD burner without going to stall after stall and asking "What DVD Burner do you have? How Much" time after time.
Thanks for any help,
Drew

Hi-Mart is the best place that is similar to Best Buy.

I totally empathize with your dislike of the Yongsan experience.

The whole set-up there is all for the sellers benefit. It's a very poor customer satisfaction environment unless you are aggressive, love haggling, don't mind walking around endless shop-units selling the same things, and know the market prices for what you want.

Homeplus or E-mart.........you'll pay maybe 10% more than internet.

A decent LG DVD-Combo should be around 35-40,000.

Just order it online. Go to danawa and check the models and prices. Click on the one you want and then go to the gmarket link. Then order it off gmarket through their english website. http://www.danawa.com/myPage/estimate/

That gmarket website looks great!
I didn't order from it yet, but I did check the prices.
I have to go to Homeplus later anyway, so I will look there first.
At least that way I can carry my old drive and make sure I am getting the same thing. But I guess internal DVD drives should be all the same anyway.

I know homeplus has laptops and some cables (and groceries), didn't know they had DVD drives. Will report back later.
Thanks

Hi-Mart is 100% tech, nothing else. Appliances, computers, gaming, etc etc. I've found pretty good prices there.

I don't think many of those places sell internal components separately. I went to a number of places looking for a Floppy disk drive with no luck.

They will have external USB drive, but I wouldn't hold my breath for an internal drive. An internal DVD writer drive should be around 30,000w.

Just buy it off of gmarket. Personally, I prefer NEC or Lite-On.

Homeplus had more stuff than I thought (Wifi modems, chat cameras ), but no internal parts like DVD writers.

I ordered off of Gmarket. Wow, dirt cheap prices. It took a little while to get the account set up, but it is possible even for foreigners. Then you have to go through all the ActiveX scary stuff. But looks like a great website that I will use again and again, so well worth it.

Thanks all, Drew

Its something Motherboard Manufacturers still require you to have in order to update your BIOS.

AFAIK, all recent Asus and Gigabyte boards can have their BIOS flashed by USB without going into Windows. Not sure about other brands. I personally wouldn't buy a mobo that could only be flashed by floppy.

i would never buy electronics from emart/homeplus/himart unless there really wasnt an option

i think these places are a massive rip off

ex..LG 42LH40YD Homeplus price 1.7mil
Danawa.com price 970k

thats almost double for a t.v. ok maybe u wont notice much difference on a dvd burner as their already cheap as chips but still...f*&k em and their hugely inflated prices.

the only snag is u will no doubt need a korean to get something from danawa.com or enuri.com ordered. if thats a problem then i guess the shops or yongsan have to be ur option.

Danawa and Enuri are cheaper, but you take your chances of being sent a grey market item, or a return reboxed and made to look like new. It's a crapshoot, depending on the vendor. Just watch the reputation of the store you buy from. Same with Yongsan, in my experience.

Darn,
I ordered off gmarket, but the DVD writer I got is different from the one in my computer. I thought they would all be the same. In my computer looks just like every DVD drive I saw on all the "how to change your DVD writer" videos. But when this one arrived from gmarket, the connectors are different than I ever saw (SATA).
Live and learn. The refund process looks pretty straightforward on gmarket anyway.
