So the solution is to send death threats? Nice.

Everyone always says not to worry about the AES because they represent a minority of Koreans.....but it only takes one crazy nutcase from this group to go over the edge and a foreigner could end up with acid being slung in their face or worse. I know that's sensationalistic and this guy is likely all talk.....but still, worrying.

This one cracked me up.

Just recently reading about Korean public school teachers now having harsher punishments placed on them for abusing students.

And immoral behaviors? Does this person site any case where a non-Korean teacher spread aids? And just recently a Korean man was charged with just that.

And what do they classify as immoral behavior? People drinking and partying and then involved in consentual sex or drinking and partying and then paying for that and then if wanting to have sex paying for that as well.

This whole AES is just a hate group like any right wing nut job group. They just find a group to hate and make outrageous claims.

From other posts you could see that their main concern is that non-koreans are having sex with Korean women. Stating that illegal and low quality teachers here is not their main priority. Its' their xenophonic attitudy and their inferiority complex that is driving such vile rhetoric.

On the positive side....we can only hope that this does damage to the image of AES. I wonder whether or not this story will be carried by the Korean language press.

I'm curious how exactly he's remaining anonymous after posting since Korean sites require screen names to be tied to real names and ID numbers.

Shouldn't Naver be able to just pull up his handle and read off his name and ID number which would then give the police all the info needed to find him?

The AES cafe manager would not provide The Korea Herald directly with a statement on the death threat e-mail.

That's just because he doesn't want to. As the poster above mentioned, it's really quite easy for the cafe manager to identify that person.

Quote:
"However strained relations may be,

"Relations" are strained simply because of the stunts AES members, especially the manager, pull. Such stunts include stalking foreigners.

Quote:
we need to maintain basic human decency," the notice on the AES website read.

Maintain basic human decency? Hey, that ship sailed the very minute the manager of AES made false charges against foreigners.

Quote:
"We cannot forgive the person who sent this threatening mail. If we find that person we will definitely report them to the police," it added further down.

As it's really quite easy to determine who sent it, the only reason there would be an "if" in that situation is if the AES manager doesn't even bother to look.

Quote:
The person that issued the death threat sent an apology -- after the notice was posted on AES -- but remained anonymous and said he was motivated by some English teachers' "immoral behaviors."

Oh, he apologized! Then that's jim dandy! Why should the ATEK leaders--and other English teachers, for that matter--be worried. Rolling Eyes

And the bigot's motivation was not immoral behavior of other people. It's his own immoral behavior and his bigotry.

My ex-husband could've written that! Though I doubt he knows anything about ATEK....

You can read the text of the email here:

http://cafe.naver.com/englishspectrum.cafe?iframe_url=/ArticleRead.nhn%3Farticleid=9975

http://briandeutsch.blogspot.com/2009/11/death-threat-against-atek-president.html

Not trying to just plug the blog, but no way it'd make it past the swear filter if I just copied-and-pasted.

The cafe also posted the guy's email address---which I also don't think'd pass the filter---though Google and Naver didn't turn up anything.

Has anyone actually been stalked by these loons?

I had some really oddball type guy apparently walking behind me last week. When I stopped to face him, he suddenly pretended to be taking a photo of the wall, before walking away hurriedly down a side alley (which led nowhere but somebody's back yard, which he clumsily climbed through). Whatever this dude was he looked pretty stupid...

I really wish I majored in journalism because I would love to know how to present this as a story to western news agencies.

What is the difference between this and terrorism?

This is not terrorism. That word and "hero" have lost all meaning to me since that day in the month after August.

One death threat from one nutjob does not terrorism make.

It's a criminal act or should be...but it's not terrorism.

And I don't know why you think this would be a story.

Some guy threatened another guy/group of people over the Internet? Happens every day.
