I'm curious about what time you guys came over here. I really want to come to Asia for a couple of years, and I want to do it as soon as i can. I just think that it would probably be a better idea if I waited a little while before doing so, maybe get a couple of years of work experience in America before going forth.

Yet, I really want to leave America for a while. Anyhow, just wanted to hear some thoughts.

I have a BS not BA. Not that it is important.

Unles you are going to come to asia and continue with the same work you are doing back home, your time working before coming here will be wasted.

Meaning, it won't count for sheyat here, and when you come back, you will have to start at the bottom of whatever you decide to do.

If you can come here to study. Working in Korea is ridiculous experience, but having a student visa (ie another reason to be here and a way to say 'piss off' to shady/incompetent employers) would make it a lot better.

I'd say come right away.
Here's why:

■ The teaching work is usually easier than teaching work at home.
The co-teachers may be difficult to get along with, culture shock may hit you, but the work itself is usually easier.
So if you want to climb one rung at a time, this might be a good place to start.

■ If you decide you like it here and you want to stay, you will have a head start in learning the language.

■ If you're interested in learning the language, the younger you are, the more easily you can learn a language.

■ There is a widespread belief that younger teachers are more fun and more inspiring. If you wait a couple of years, you will be a couple of years older.

I came pretty much literally after I graduated in 2003. Stayed for 5 years, went to several different countries for vacation and then came back home to NA to get my teaching cert. Once I got into the classroom here I found my experience was good in action but if I want to apply for a job I will start at the bottom of the rung. Decided to continue my ESL teaching for another year but in an internationally recognised school which I hope will get me a better job in the future.

So my point is if you have only a BA use it to come over right away. Korea is fun when you are young. Especially if you like to drink and party college style,
