Hi,
I'm looking to do a TEFL Course.. but it's a minefield out there, at what to do.. can anyone in the know, please look at this website, which offers a 2-3 day condensed course.
http://www.uk-tefl.com/?gclid=CK6ky4TEq54CFUmZ2AodiEMalw
Will this be adequate for applying for jobs requiring a TEFL...
Many thanks in advance.. |

I had a look at this website and I saw this:
Teaching practice
You will have a go at teaching, with your fellow students playing the role of EFL students and you will observe other students teaching for a total of six hours.
Take a look at Course Timetable for more details.
This is basically a joke and a waste of time. Are your fellow students supposed to pretend to have all the learning difficulties of a genuine language learner?
It also says this is a condensed version fo the CELTA. This is complete dross, you can't condense 150 hours with 12-15 hours classroom time into three days. Don't do it. If you're serious about EFL, especially in Europe do the CELTA or Trinity CERT TESOL. A good school in Europe will expect nothing less; Korea however is a different story. |

| Did you check out their jobs section? They are either voluntary, ridiculously low paid or simply generic - e.g. 'Bournemouth language schools.' By the way, with a real CELTA you can get free board and lodging and five days a week for those wages. |

I've been to Korea, i'm thinking I would like to try Europe, and it seems TEFL is pretty much required. I just don't know who to go with, which is why i'm asking on this forum..
It seems to be a minefield out there, different places offering different courses. |

If you're going to Europe, do a CELTA... most else is crap; and unlike K-land, the crap is not recognized. |

FYI - The TEFL International course that many of you recommend (the "beach in Thailand") is coming to South Korea after Xmas.
The course is part-time, either a few evenings a week, or weekend afternoons, and leads to full internationally-acceptable TESOL Certification which includes the very popular and succcessful TEFL International Methodology that works wonders in Asian cultures. It's going to be held in Seoul near Seoul Station.
There are a few other bonuses for this particular course: it's run by one of the most qualified and experienced trainers in their company; the certs are signed by Dr. David Nunan; part of the course can be done on-line if you like; there is a high degree of specific course content on teaching in Korean classrooms; and a sizeable "holiday course discount" if you sign up before Jan. 1st, 2010. Check out the link here: http://www.teflkorea.org
