My school had our week off to combat the deadly swine in-plu-en-ja after a handful of kids got sick. Now, Wednesday, our 3-3 homeroom teacher caught it, followed by 3-1 after lunch, and now this morning, 3-2 (my coteacher) has it as well. The office has a whole swarm of kids who THIS time are actually sick (they are pink in the face, look nauseous, etc). Now, I'M start to feel ill. Hopefully, it's a psychological thing...
Anyway, I got this feeling that we may get another week off (and another "come in early" notice for break with it) and the whole thing just sucks.
Just wanted to get that out there. Thanks. |

Yrp...that whole "close the school down for a week" thing is retarded. As if students weren't going to interact outside of class...lol.
There was talk a while back about shutting down our uni for 10 days. I was looking forward to it, but i guess someone figured out reality.
1) shut down school.
2) kids (elementary to uni level...they are all kids) will go out and play, drink..whatever they do together.
3) school starts up again and new cases pop up an still infect people.
It doesn't take a immunolgist to see what needs to be done.
Either shut down the whole country for 10 days (have police on the street ready to kill anyone who leaves their house). Bar new people from entering the country...or wait til winter is over and worry about the next big virus to spring up. |

The Ks have no real afinity for the French. I for one, will welcome an outbreak of 'sheep flu' if it sweeps the nation and gets me an extra week off when I come back from winter holidays.  |

| Interestingly enough, there were two reported cases of cats testing positive for H1N1 in Utah, USA. If it mutates, maybe cat flu is next? |

Ah, but at least in public schools - that means regular classes will probably extend an additional week into vacation. S. Koreans are rather hardcore. |

It's got to catch up some how. If they are going to make your vacation shorter, then they could do it with or without a flu. Better to get the time you can off now as opposed to later. |

That's why on Sept. 28, I wrote a letter to my principal, cced to the: v.p., the local office of education and the POE telling them my holidays will be right in the middle of 'winter vacation'. A week later I had tickets for six flights and three hotels (the price of which has almost doubled since).
Undoubtedly my CT/handler will approach me four days before winter vacation and tell me the POE wants me to teach teachers for three weeks during vacation.
My response will be "SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSssssssss... an-ai-yo... not possible.

I wish them luck with trying to convince me of something like this. I've got my bloody vacation booked and ready to go. If they told me we had to have PS classes an extra week, I'd smile and say no. |

Ah, Monday! Middle of my second hour, the head teacher came on the intercom... All the kids are going to the gym to get a swine flu shot. My morning class was canceled (it's busy work week, so no worries) and now they'll all feel like crap tomorrow too, but at least we'll get this whole mess behind us.
BTW, the schools around here (Suwon/Osan) in my particular area have already decided that we are coming back from vacation a week early, so if you're vacation is right in the middle, you'll probably be here just in time to start again!  |
