Partying at Myeongsashimni beach on Sinjido during my first summer vacation in Korea in July 2003: a perfect moment, feeling like I had the world by the tail, at the centre of a thriving life, at a place that was real rather than a tourist trap, surrounded by friendly good humoured people, celebrating the summer, celebrating everything, enjoying everything, wide eyed and worry free.

May 28th 2008, Cheonan. My son was born at 4:50 a.m. after a lo-o-ng labour (for my wife). Everything really was sparkling in Korea then...

Well, I was gonna say the weekend I stayed shut in with a K-gal that was sporting all natural 34DD's....

But then you guys went off on your kids being born and such and now that just makes me feel like a wanker.

And I might have known some self-righteous reactionary on Dave's would judge me. Ahhhh, Korea, how I love thee....

My boyfriend and I are happiest here when our work temporarily comes to a halt and we board the plane to fly away to new or familiar vacation spots. There we spend a month or two with old friends and relatives or just lounging by the pool, reading, snorkeling, shopping, sightseeing, being intimate, etc. Leaving behind our comfortable lives in Korea for some truly free time in less culturally conservative and usually more serene surroundings always makes us both feel warm, energized, and ready to come back and work for another 3 or 4 months.

The immense enjoyment of the feeling that all that fun is beginning again certainly does make us "[Mod Edit]," doesn't it?
