I got one the other day. Got a knock at the door and two gentlemen introduced themselves as Jehova's Witnesses.
"Here we go AGAIN" I'm thinking.
They handed over an advent calendar and some other Christmassy stuff which was very kind. I thanked them and they went on their merry way.
I tried my hardest to hold out to December 1st to open the first door but I caved in as I needed chocolate.
I opened up the first door with much excitement and the two bastards were stood behind it! |

You do realise that Advent was yesterday, and you're supposed to start the Advent Calendar on Dec. 1st, right? So a little over a week's time means it'll be AFTER December before he can lay his hands on this calendar and probably longer before his friend gets it. It'll be like trying to sell diaries in January.... totally defeating the purpose. |

It was a joke to highlight the fact that when I opened the door of the calendar the Jehovas were standing behind it...
Not to worry |

If anyone is looking for an advent calender, Korea doesn't have them. I have scoured Naver.com, asked all of my Korean contacts in the church business and have been told that even Korean christians don't much have a need or care about them. I guess it's true that the church in Korea is all about the money. |

The origins of the Advent calendar come from German Lutherans who, at least as early as the beginning of the 19th century, would count down the 24 days of Advent physically. Often this meant simply drawing a chalk line on the door each day, beginning on December 1. Some families had more elaborate means of marking the days, such as lighting a new candle (perhaps the genesis of today's Advent wreath) or hanging a little religious picture on the wall each day.
