Man I feel like a lard sometimes. Any good pools to do laps in (Daegu or Daegu area)?
Thanks |

If you want to lose weight, a swimming pool might not be the best place to lose it.
Koreans have been known to openly ridicule fat people in swimming pools and locker rooms. |

Just don't get caught swimming behind the slow adjummas.
I've tried to do serious lap swimming in Korea but the lanes can be seriously crowded [not to mention narrow] and while they are supposed to be divided into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels of ability; it sadly, becomes a free-for-all. |

Ask your co-workers to help you. They probably will know one in your area.
There's a pool near my apartment in Seong-seo with very few "open swim" hours and most of them on weekends. Most Koreans do the group "classes" and those run all the time. Might be a way to force yourself to go regularly.
But I concur with the previous poster's assessment of lap swimming in Korea--not really that fun. Too many people, most of them staring at you and trying to talk to you 'cause you're foreign. And you have to wear a swim cap.
Duryu has a pool. As does Hotel Interburgo. I have not been to either, but have heard various reviews from friends who have.
I believe the universities (Kyungbuk and Keimyung) also have pools. |

Don't forget about the compulsory 10 minute breaks per hour that a lot of pools have...drives me crazy and I'm sure does me more harm than good... |

Duryu was the best I found in Daegu. A bit crowded at peak times but generally lap swimmers, not a paddling pool. |

Thanks for all the information. Don't really understand the wearing of the swim cap thing. I was once told so hair won't get in the pool but I have hair all over my body......do they sell a body cap? |

I don't get it either. It is a pretty dumb rule, as is the getting out of the pool every so often.
This past summer I had to go to a pool with a camp I was doing. While I refused to swim with the kids due to my hate for the sun, I did have to sit nearby under an umbrella and talk to any kids that were out of the water. Every 30 minutes they pulled everyone out of the pool for 10 minutes. What is the good in that? I'll tell you what I observed: all the kids and adults would get out and go to the pool operated stores and buy food. They would eat food and go into the swimming pool. I could write a long essay on why combining food and swimming is a bad thing, but I can imagine most reading this get the point. Oh they also sold beer on the premises too. While I felt secure in drinking my brews (and yeah the camp manager had no problem with me having a couple beers, as he and the other manager were hitting the CASS too) what about those who would drink and swim?
I will say, good luck finding a pool. Sadly I will never swim in Korea unless it is at a 5 star hotel. |
