Besides the stuff on Daves ESL, where is a good website or book for lesson plans?

I'm teaching at a public school right now & the book is incredibly boring. I can tell the students feel the same way.

The classes I have are from 3rd to 6th grade, which have a book & is not really an issue. However I also have a Kindergarden class & two adult classes, which no book is used. Basically I feel like they pushed me in these classes with no idea on what I should be doing. Yes, I am the English Teacher but I have no idea what these students know.

I've made lesson plans already which have been met with both blank stares because it's way too hard for them, as well as lesson plans that are way too easy since they're completed in 10-15 minutes. Further, my co-teacher and maybe one other teacher in the school are the only ones with any functional English skill. They're not always around for me to translate. Maybe I am thinking about this too much

I would appreciate any advice the people of Daves ESL could offer.

barryfunenglish is good for some stuff. its a pay site though $15 a year or submit stuff yourself. and also use efl classroom 2.0. the guy who runs it posts on here, im sure he'll be along shortly. but its an awesome sight and davids stuff is fantastic. other than that. be creative and get to learn powerpoint. download powerpoint for dummies from a torrent site and have a flick through. the benefit of powerpoint of course is, next year (if there is a next year) it can be used again and again. or evern tweeked between classes if you like. just google the two websites i mentioned. you'll find them

Lukas- Think of the textbook as a backup. Lesson plans aren't that hard once you have a method. The pages need to be filled out to make the parents happy, but the real gold is in what you do besides the text book. Use lots of powerpoints, funny photos. Think about what would catch their attention and keep them entertained. I find that showing a 5 minute youtube video on a subject is a good way to liven them up and get them enthusiastic about the material. Think about spending 1/2 your prep time looking for interesting photos and videos. After you have those, its all good.

Think of a lesson plan as a painting. You start with a small object (youtube or picture) and then build out from there.

Example:

Subject: Sightseeing in Australia.

1. Search for an interesting video about famous places in Australia. Ooh, found one on the outback with strange animals.

2. First make a vocabulary powerpoint with the names of the strange animals.

3. Then show them the video. Press pause at certain points where they show the animals. "Hey class, what is this animal called?"

4. Then they will be intrigued and mentally involved. Have them fill out the boring book work and BAM, the lesson is done and was successful.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all about serious education...but Korea in 2009 doesn't seem like the time or place for it. Just playing by Boss Man's rules, even if I don't agree with them.

We don't get paid enough to start an educational revolution.

Nothing wrong with that. If you can make learning (actually learning, not just providing 40-50 minutes of laughs) fun, then your students will learn more, faster, and remember it better.

Your classes must be boring. I feel sorry for you if you think that education cannot be fun and exciting for the students.

This website is free, and it has materials on various subjects, and of various levels of difficulty (something for all of elementary to university level learners).
The materials are MSWord and pdf files, mostly 2-page, that can very conveniently be printed on one two-sided A4 sheet, and handed out one per student.
The materials have nearly all necessary korean vocabulary and translations on them.
Preparation time is approximately nil, and Korean coteachers are generally happy with the lessons.
The many sheets are freely available from:
