Does your high school even have a book for the class?

I teach at a high school, no classes. I do my own topics. They also have a lot of test. You can use this to your advantage. Do word games for the 2000 words they must learn.

Try to make some of the topics relate to what they are learning or at least fun. The students are at school 14 hours a day. It is nice if they have one class they can enjoy.

As for homework or such, don't expect them to do anything you give. If your class topics are not part of the class grade, you mean nothing to the students.

I asked my co-teacher yesterday if I could have a look at the text book they use to see if I could integrate what I do with what they're currently doing in class, and she told me that it wouldn't be any good, because what they do in those classes is translation. Then she told me that I'd have to prepare lesson plans by March for the whole of the next semester. Should have kept my mouth shut, methinks.
