Dear Daves Esl Cafe Readers,
Often, I am asked to give restaurant recommendations in Seoul. I decided to post that information here as well, so you can also find good eats in the city. My friend Chef Anna Kim specifically asked for Korean Barbecue restaurants, so here is a short list with contact information.
There are more restaurants on my site www.seouleats.com
Happy Eating!
Dan
* Bossam: Gung Jung Bossam has four locations across Seoul, to get to the one featured, take Subway Line 2 to Guro Digital Area, get out exit 3, and walk towards the Colon Science Billie building. Tel: 02.2025.2999
* Garmaeggisal at Galmaegi-sal Jeonmun(click on the link for Robyn Lee's Story) I remember that it wasn't far from the Jongno 3-ga stop on the 3 line.
* Bonga: It's a Korean BBQ with very thinly sliced 우삼겹 (beef with fat layers) and lots of salad and side dishes. The place is called 본가 (Bonga). If you take exit 5 of Hongdae station, turn left before Pascucci, then turn right at the first possible street. The restaurant is on the right side of this street, you need to climb the outside stairs to get to the entrance.
* Eel at Jangeorang Hongdae. 2F, Samuk Bldg., 6-137, Changjeon-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul 02-333-1455 www.jangarang.com Lunch Prices: 10-15,000 won per person. Dinner Prices: 15-30,000 won per person. Hours: Open from 10am-11pm everyday. Reservations recommend for large groups. Parking is available.
* Yangmiok( BBQd intestines) in Euljiro 3gahttp://map.naver.com/local/company_view.nhn?code=11679426. Yangmiok was a favourite restaurant of Pres. Kim.
Sariwon, 1321-7 Seocho-dong, 82-2-3474-5005, www.sariwon.co.kr; 35,000 won a person.
* Hongik Sootbul Kalbi, near Hongik University, 82-2-322-4487; 15,000 won a person.

FYI that Pascucci by Hongdae Exit 5 is gone, I think it's now a Paris Baguette, I'm about 99% sure of this. |

Meat cooked over charcoal is better than electric or gas cooked meat. i personally like what I call" garbage pale restaurants" or "Oil Drum restaurants" The table is made from a converted barrel made into a makeshift table. The tables can accomindate up to four people. There is usually all kinds of ducking to reduce carbon emmisions. |

It's actually Hongik University Station, line #2 (green line) in North West Seoul. University names are often shortened which can cause some confusion.
For example, Ewha Women's Univeristy (Ewha Yeoja Dae Hak Yo) is shortened to "Ee-dae" or Konkuk Dae Hak Yo is shortened to "Kon-dae." In this case, Hongik Dae Hak Yo is shortened to Hongdae.
Questions? |

Going slightly off topic, I've heard that there's a raw horse spot somewhere down south of Seoul at 범계 (Bom Gye) station on Line 4. Has anyone been here and can they confirm prices/quality/etc? |
