Personally, I favor the half windsor. It's pretty quick, and it's symmetrical. I'll occasionally do a pratt knot, but not too often. I'm not a big fan of the windsor or four in hand. The windsor just always seems to look ridiculous, and it's a pain in the neck(no pun intended) to get the length right. The four in hand knot looks pretty sloppy, in my opinion.

Never tied a tie. Never owned a suit. Should probably get on to that. 28 years old

Half windsor for sure. I never wear a tie for fashion (read: like those guys who wear ties with jeans) so it's always with dress pants or a suit. That said, it has to look neat, and the four-in-hand just doesn't look neat and always comes out lopsided. The Windsor looks quite pretentious. The half windsor is smaller but still neat and goes with any collar.

Not sloppy - youthful.

Depends on the tie. A Windsor is OK with thinnish tie, but a half usually looks better on the rest. I have several Korean-bought clip-ons too.

The knot that I can tie without using a mirror or while standing in a darkish room or place. I also like the zipper ties for a truly speedy experience.

There are different ways to tie a tie?!

We always wore ties at school (private girls boarding school in the UK) and we were taught only one way to tie the tie.... I don't know what it's called but it looked nice!

Staplegun or double-sided sticky tape.

Windsor. it's more triangular and stable than a half-windsor (my half-windsors were always lopsided and the big part of the tie would tend to flip sideways.) I measure the thin end of the tie with my shirt buttons. usually on the third button down. it usually comes out to the right length.

I learned how to do a windsor from a how to tie a tie website.

Wow, there are people that actually sit and compare tie knots?

Just you wait. Once this issue has been resolved, I will start a poll on the best mid-range ballpoint pens.

"Depends on neck width and height."

+1 but it also depends on the tie. My ties I either do a 4 or a 1/2 W, depending on the overall look. I think 1/2 w is nice--stable, easy. Most of my ties (and my neck) are not accomodating a full winds. But sometimes the tie is just casual, "you look like you're going out" classy so I ant to relax the knot, let it be asymmetrical, so I 4-them

For those of you amazed there are different knots:
