| if you aren't worried about sound quality then go ahead and buy it. LG and Samsung speakers aren't that great. Sony has some speaker systems similar to the one you linked to. THe sound quality won't be great but it will at least be better. |

| Personally, I would get a pair of decent speakers and an amp before I spent that much money on basically crap. You need not get massive towers, just a pair of good bookcase speakers will work and sound better than a shitty 5 speaker system in my opinion. |

Interesting, every review i've read says it's a decent mid-level system the only major flaw being touchy low register sound from the non-passive sub. Never heard from anyone about this being a "crap" system...
I've put together my own system before and it's such a hassle. I don't have time to mess around with buying all the separate components, etc, so I'd rather get a system that i can just plug n' play at this point. If you know a better one suggest one so i can look it up. |

I have a similar TV which I use with this Sony system:
http://www.sony-asia.com/product/dav-dz777
It is easy to set up on your own, although I did have to download an English manual from the website, and the sound is awesome. The only downside is that the DVD player isn't multi-region and I can't find a hack for it. This means I also have to use my cheap multi-region DVD player from Yongsan with it's crappy S-video connection. |

Thanks bass. That's the information on alternatives i was looking for! Back home i had one of these Yamaha set ups. YTR something with all audio modes THX included was crazy expensive though. I spent $900 just for the receiver + Klipsch speaker set, 10" powered Sub...was a beaut...sold it all off when i came to Korea though. I'll definitely get a better sub though either way.
I'm not looking for the top of the line stuff at the moment though - but i'll check out some of your mid-priced stuff you listed. Thanks! |

| Have you thought about soundproofing your place? If you want to have the volume up past "3," it might be worth considering... |

Be sure to let us know what you get!
In all seriousness... you can buy a set of 4 Inkel bookshelf speakers that will sound quite good, and a 5th for a center (if you're able to get just one). Or buy the matching Inkel center. Then add a sub, and you're good.
I have two of these in my office, and they sound quite good:

Buy 4 of those for $200... or 6 for $300.
Even if you don't add a sub, you'll be ahead of what the combined systems put out for sound. Seriously, those little speakers are not bad at all! |

Happy with my system. Paid a reasonable price. Not too expensive but sounds great to my ears. I bought a few bits from www.avprime.co.kr and www.enterav.co.kr
I use a Cambridge Audio azur 540R V3, but use it as a processor, with a Ceratec Power Amp. I have two front Quad 22L2 speakers, and Quad 22L2 speakers used as rears. All of which is connected up to my computer. I don't use a sub, as the Quads more than deliver in a small living room.
I have an LG LCD TV.

Nice.
I'd agree that you don't need a sub if you live in typical Korean high-density housing. The bass frequencies are what travel through the walls and floor to annoy your neighbors.
Just get some good fronts and put them on spikes then set them on a stone plinth. Isolate that bass. You'd be surprised how loud you can go before the neighbors complain if the bass is well isolated. |

Paradigm system here.
Paradigm Monitor 7's for the mains, and Mini-monitors for the rears. A Paradigm Center Channel, and PDR-12 subwoofer, as well. Marantz SR8002 receiver pushing them.
Say what you want about a sub. There is a night and day difference in the lows which you can't feel unless you own at least a 12". You don't have to run it very loud, either. I'm sure the neighbors don't like it, though. |
