My contract ended early november and I'm still waiting for my severance. I renewed my contract. Is it normal to wait this long? Do you think they forgot? They paid me my plane ticket money |

I hope you haven't ear-marked that money, cos you won't be getting it until you leave the school. The somewhat good news is it'll be based on your last three months' salary (I believe). |

How sure are you? Are you talking about the pension? I know the pension is handed over after you leave. but I thought the severance was given at the completion of one year. regardless if you left or not. |

It's your choice.
You can ask, and take it, at renewal time and the again when you complete the second contract. However, if you leave early during the second contract period, you get nothing in terms of severance for months after your first year.
By not taking it now, if you have to leave that job for some reason, you are entitled for a prorated amount that includes the first year and every day you worked on the renewal. |
