Why is it that women, who don't normally experience hair loss, can wear wigs, but guys - who do experience hair loss - can't wear wigs. Of course they 'can' but there's a cultural taboo against it. Dudes wearing a piece often get laughed at. They have to keep it a big secret. Why is that? How is it that this state of affairs arose?

You meet someone and, if the first time you're intimate she takes off a wig to reveal her real hair, no guy really cares. It might even seem sexy and make her appear somewhat mysterious. A guy takes off his piece and the woman probably starts thinking of excuses to go home.

Has any guy here ever worn a piece, or considered wearing one? I am very interested in any stories that you might have (either about yourself, a friend or family member.)

This seems to me one area where the dominant culture, traditionally orchestrated to advance the interests of men, actually worked against them.

pieces for men generally look awful, and a lot of the ones for women aren't much better. If Donald Trump can't manage to find a good one, what makes you think you can?

Shaved heads look good on most men anyway. Toupees and combovers are bad, but most women are okay with anything else

Hair plugs might be better, of course a lot more expensive. Anyone ever come across pubic wigs?

I suspect that the taboo against toupees was originally applied by men, not women. You're not virile enough to grow hair/shave your head, etc. It became uncool after centuries of general acceptance. Uncool usually means unattractive for women (although this is sometimes the opposite for men).

My hair is beginning to thin, alas. I'll be trying rogaine in the not-so-distant future Embarassed

I would consider buying a few wigs just for fashion. I think it could develop into kind of a cult trend. Ah, I am a white male by the way.

You know, you could have a longer one, a pink one, ect ect

I think it's cool to change up your look every once in a while in a way that most people wouldn't.

The problem comes when you HAVE to wear the wig just to avoid embarassment.

I don't think it's as much of a taboo for Korean men. There are a few ads on and I think one of the guys who promotes toupes is semi famous in Korea. Plus, you hardly ever see bald Korean men. Koreans can't be that much less prone to baldness than other cultures.

Rogaine in the future.

I heard Korean Miyook soup (sp?) reduces hair loss, due to the amount of iodine contained in it.

It would seem you had your ear entirely too close to a cow's arse as it made room for desert, chief. Iodine doesn't have a damned bit to do with whether your hair follicles bite the big one or not.

Plenty of genetic differences between Whities and Hans, that's for sure. I'll take my awesome partially redheadedness over a full head of banal black hair everyday.

Bald is beautiful, I never considered a piece, come over or rogaine. Once I started losing it, I started shaving it all. F*** you genetics, I will make myself bald by choice, I dont have to look like George Kastanza!

My dad had a full head of hair until the day he died and I think I will too, so the question for guys like me would be would we ever color our gray hair. For me the answer would be no, at least on my head. However, I am already getting gray on my beard which bugs the hell out of me, and I have thought about using some Just For Men on that.

As for losing one's hair, Bald seems to be cool these days anyway.

It's a "comb over" in the U.S.. Who knows in other parts of the world. We used to call them sidewinders also. It looks terrible. Shave it down or buzz it low.

I have seen a few ajoshi's with rugs. Abominations, every one of them.

I saw a funny ad for fake hair once in Yongin. It was a big picture on a building. Before and after. The first guy is balding. He looks sad, frowning, obviously has no life. The second/same guy has lovely hair. So he's smiling while chatting on his cell phone.

It's like when Homer got hair. You know the episode.

One of the adjeoshi bus drivers at a hagwon I worked for had an amazing comb over. He kept it in place with a bright green clip with butterflies on it.
