How do you check your bank balances at the ATM?
The ones where I live are not in English, and I'm not comfortable using trial and error like my co-teach suggested, lol. I asked her to write it down but every time I say that, it's like talking to a brick wall or she insists on going for me and pressing the buttons.
So will one of you kind gents or ladies let me know what I should look for?
Thanks in advance! |

| Try looking for "잔액조회". If that doesn't work, you can always update the bank book, "통장정리". |

| Your ATM doesn't have English options? My banks ATM also gives me a summary of my account whenever I make an withdrawal. |

Nope, it does not. They do give me a summary but it's all in Korean, lol. I do know how much is in my account just by virtue of keeping all my receipts.
Also, one bank in my town does do English but the other bank closest to me does not. It's annoying but whatever. I live in Korea, so... |

isnt it amazing, the irony? they always want you to learn korean, but refuse to really help you...
i remember trying to ask a teacher how to say those big envelopes. i wanted to ask for one at the hangjeongsil.
he just wanted me to bring one and say "give me this." which, of course works, but will never expand my vocabulary. |

ATMs in Korea are pretty stupid.
Here in Daejeon, all the machines have English and I use it. The problem is, a lot of the functions available in Korean are't available in English.
Case in point - I had a few cheques yesterday that I deposited into my account. I selected English and when it got the part where I was asked to put the money in, I was only given the cash option. So I cancelled it and used the Korean version and they allowed me to deposit my cheques.
I dislike using the ATM in Korean because while my Korean is pretty good, I still feel uncomfortable dealing with money matters in a language of which I only understand 70-80%. |
