I've just passed my 100hr online test in TEFL/TESOL.

The problem is that they can only put one of either "TEFL" or "TESOL" on the certificate, which do you think i should go for?

Am i right in thinking that TESOL is the more widely used term?
TESOL returns 605k google hits
TEFL returns 550k

Thanks for any help.

TESOL is rapidly becoming the buzz word to have on a piece of paper for employment in Korea. In reality, there isn't a whole lot of difference between the two designators, especially where a 100-hour certification is concerned.

TEFL=teaching English as a foreign language. In Korea, where there isn't a large English-speaking community, this is what your are doing.

TESOL= teaching English as a second language. Applies to teaching English were students have the opportunity to interact in English outside of the classroom because there is a large English-speaking community--think teaching English to francophone kids in Ontario.

If I were in your situation, I'd probably want TESOL on the certificate. It's the buzz word for what we do.

TESOL - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
