Any tips on cool places to visit (daytime and nighttime), delicious restaurants to try out, as well as general experiences of people in Cheon-ho dong?
What's this neighborhood like for a 30-something year old guy? I may be headed there for a few months while trying to lock down a more permanent place in another area.
Thanks. |

Cheonho is great. Jamsil is even better.
Not really much to do in Seoul besides shop and eat, but those two areas are best for that. |

Cheonho-dong is great, near the subway station, they have a Hyundai Dept. store for shopping and an Emart for groceries... there's a rodeo alley where younger kids hang out but you can check out the coffeeshops or bars... not so good movie theater across the street... decent and cheap eateries. Cheonho, much like Itaewon, used to really be a sketchy (redlight district remains!) area, but some gentrification has made it the family friendly area it is now. |

My problem with Cheonho is that it's really too family friendly. The neighborhood is a lot like Gangnam/Apgujeong in that it's hard to get around without a car. Bus and train connections aren't as good as in other parts of the city and even though it is within Seoul city limits, it can be a chore getting into and out of the area.
Places to check out, behind the Cheonho Rodeo there is 'Jokbal-maeul' or pig feet town, a little alley packed to the gills with pig feet (delicious). You're also a hop, skip, and a jump away from Garak sijang, a huge, open-air seafood market and Olympic Park.
Otherwise expect to find a ton of decent restaurants full of families and salary men and not a lot of super fancy, super cheap or ethnic eateries in the area. |

?? Too family friendly?? I dunno about that. Cheonho is kind of sleezy. Lots of love motels and lots of bars. Plenty of naked girl cards on the ground too. The only place where you see a lot of kids is at E-Mart.
And it is super easy to get around there. Everything is within at least a 20 minute walk. And the subway station is a main transfer point for the pink and purple lines. It is a major hub for transportation. It is also very close to Technomart, which is neat to see. Just cross the bridge by taxi for W3000.
There is also a very large movie theater in Cheonho that is just off the beaten path. It is behind the shitty movie theater that is on the main drag.
And there used to be some sweet batting cages just down the road at Kangdong station. Don't know if they are still there though. |

| That's assuming this guy gets into Cheonho itself and not the greater Cheonho area. |

In what way is Jamsil better? I know it's closer to Apgujeong and Gangnam...and there's a great restaurant near the MBS building that was mouth watering.
It's one of the areas I may be on a longer-term basis and was just curious.
Thanks. |

| Jamsil has Lotte World and that big ass park and lake near it. That's nice a place to walk around. |

i'd have to agree that chamshil is better. first off, it's closer and more centrally located than Cheonho. secondly, much better shopping/eating options, what with Lotte Dept. Store and the surrounding mall area. Thirdly, better transportation options, more buses, subways. It's also near Shin-chun (one stop away on the green line) which is dirt cheap bars and eateries. |

They disappeared sometime in 2007. Did you live next to them? |
