with a teaching degree and two years experience should i take anything less than 2.2 million won? If i get a contract for 2.0 should I take it or make a counter-offer of 2.2? whats the chances of them negotiating on the salary?

probably should be in the job-related discussion forum but.....

with a teaching degree and 2 years experience you should be able to get around 2.5 mil

2.2 would be lowballing yourself.

youre right , i didnt see the job-related forum. but do you think there's room for negotiating? I know it depends on the hagwon, but are they "known" to stick to their guns on money issues?

You can generally negotiate with a hagwon....although I am not sure that you will get 2.5 million (it would depend on the location)...people will tell you otherwise, but I think that 2.3 or 2.4 is what you should be shooting for from a hagwon. But absolutely don't take anything under 2.2 million.

It depends on many more factors... Also, what kind of experience is this? i.e. Teaching professionally and working part-time as a tutor are two different things.

He said he's got a teaching degree, assuming he's certified to teach in the states, Canada, UK etc, I think he should be shooting for 3 mill. + in Gangnam. I've seen advertisements for this salary for hagowns occasionally. He'll work hard for it, but he might be made to work just as hard for 2 mill, so I think that would be irrelevant.

I have a teaching degree from Canada. Because I have an F 2 visa I can make a lot more money doing business English, otherwise I would try first to get a job at one of the accredited international schools in Seoul. This experience will count toward pay increases and pension when you decide you want to teach in your home country.

Next, I would go the university route. With you degree and experience you can probably get a job quite easily in one of the rural universities.

Good luck!

I am just out of college with no teaching experience and have a degree that has nothing to do with teaching and I got a 2.2 offer from a school and excepted it.
