Oh so rare. Self-criticism. Acknowledge one's reflection in the mirror & etc.

Huh?? The jump that this article took gave me whiplash...What in the name of Ramanuja does korean social problems have to do with the 7 Wonders of the World?? What is Mr. Lee Kyu-youn's agenda here?

Quote:
But if the Seven Wonders were to be selected among unusual social, rather than architectural, phenomena, Korea would be hard to beat. Private, supplementary classes are overriding public education, and plastic surgery has become the most coveted indulgence, regardless of age or gender. Political corruption is so ubiquitous that the ruling and opposition leaders and even the president himself are associated with scandals. How strange is that?

Strange indeed Lee...strange indeed

Maybe they are saying there are 7 distinct strange and/or corrupt things going on in Korea right now. I agree for the most part, but I wonder why this reader is fixated only on Korea for these problems. They exist in many places.

"But if the Seven Wonders were to be selected..."

I wondered what was to come when I saw this sentence. Yes the problems exist in other countries, but other countries are equally critical of their own governments.

But if Little Lee-Lee actually included 7 distinct examples of Korean social issues, the article may (big may) abiguously connect with the story and make partial sense. As it stands, the article is the work of a schizophrenic madman who needs his ass beaten (which would actually give him material for his next article - "The History of Ship Building" with a conclusion touching upon the related issue of "Random Hose Beatings in a Burger King."

Truly a fascinating little piece, though, isn't it? If it wasn't from the bilingual news, I'd have thought that somehow someone made a translation mistake with the title.

The writing style is really bizarre. Is that normal in Korean news? He mentions his point in the title, then goes on for four paragraphs talking about the origins of the concept of "seven wonders", only to use three sentences to make his point. Shocked
