|

I haven't collected my pension for the past two years and I'm planning on getting married soon. Can F2's still collect the lump-sum pension, or do I need to cash out before I tie the knot?
What about if I get married but don't process the F2 right away (is that possible?) - can I collected the lump-sum between these two stages?
It may seem kind of silly, but 2 years of uncollected pension is nothing to scoff at - I'd say around 4 million Won. |

No experience, but somebody had a similar query last week or so.
I believe you need to show a ticket out of the country to prove you are leaving, in order to collect pension. |

Thanks nobbyken, but I'm familiar with how to go about collecting it.
I'm asking if changing to an F2 effects my pension at all - essentially is it still possible to collect the lump sum? |

My understanding is that collection of the pension is the same irrespective of visa status. It can only be collected when you leave the country, therefore if you remain here the Money stays with the Govt until you leave or reach retirement age. |

Is that a nice attitude when asking for help?
I hope your attitude is better with your wife.
Most people on an E2 have an expiration date on their visa witch roughly matches their contract duration. For E2's visa status doesn't figure at all.
Getting an F2 is for people who want to reside in Korea with a partner.
Since your F2-1 visa won't have a matching date as the one you want to leave the country on, you may be asked to hand your card. Your visa will expire and need renewing after a year anyway, so they may not ask for your arc.
Try the pensions office or immigration for advice.
Pension regulations differ for nationalities in Korea, you don't state where you were brought-up so well. |

And what attitude would that be nobbyken? My *bump* you attitude? For your information, yes, I do *bump* my wife-to-be all the time and she quite enjoys it.
Alright mate, it's all in good fun.. and thanks for you additional info.
I'm trying to get a quick answer in case I do need to leave the country to collect, as I'm on a tight schedule with working, studying, and the rest of it.
Called the pension people and they confirmed that I can still collect it if my visa status changes. Then I found out that the place I've been working at for the past year hasn't been paying into the scheme, so I need to get that sorted out. Oh joy. |
